There is no real reason to run anything other than cheap 10w30 in that old stock 350. It will run forever on just about anything. Spending money for diesel oil is just a waste. If it were mine Id pickup a jug of Supertech Oil and matching Filter. Less than $15.00 otd for both and rock on for at least 5,000 miles.

Except he's keeping the car and investing more time and money to make it better. It's a cruiser and other than leaks, no one wants to pull that engine and replace it. So the longer it runs well, the happier they'll all be.

I get SuperTech in a beater or a car on it's last go round. But something that may still be running as is in 20 more years, I would not go there ...

Though buying something more expensive than Supertech oil might provide you an additional peace of mind, in reality there is absolutely no evidence that running cheaper oil will result in worse engine longevity than a higher priced oil- assuming both oils fulfill the engine's requirements.

Yes and No ... 90K on that motor means it's well broken in and prolly has some sludge and varnish issues as well. No biggee, but if you want to keep it in there, you might want a different add pak to slowly clean that old baby out ... Either a high detergency oil, or an oil and an additive (like BG109, KREEN, etc.).

Supertech is OK for everyday use in a lot of engines. But I would never say it has the most robust add pak ...

Well I hope supertech is ok I run it 3k in my Honda I owe money on still.

Just got "partsmaster" 6 gallon box (5 oil changes) full synthetic 5w30 for my Toyota for $55

Yea the 1950 is sentimental, just as it sits. Had to have it built by my kids first birthday, had 5 months to do it. Made the deadline by 2 hours and 45 minutes. My mom bought me the motor.

Hi Drew - Shell Rotella T4, Rotella T5 (synthetic blend) and Rotella T6 (synthetic) products have 1200 ppm of zinc. This is generally enough zinc for older flat-tappet designs, provided they are not racing cams and springs with high loads. These products are marketed to diesel engine customers and meet diesel engine specifications, but they are suitable for older cars and gasoline engines without catalytic converters. Hope this helps! - The Shell Rotella Team
