A friend of mine purchased a 1984 Porsche 944 over the weekend. It's a non-turbo with just over 40K miles on it. It appears to be well taken care of. The previous owner also kept very detailed maintenance record which were included with the car.

I have not had a chance to look at the records-however he is asking for oil advice. I'm not familiar with Porsche requirements at all-does anyone have some insight as to what would be a good oil for this car? I don't expect it to be abused, but it won't be babied either.

Yesterday was the first time I ever drove a Porsche-I was impressed. It's a powerful, fun to drive car that runs like a top. If my legs weren't so long I might consider one for myself.

Porsche recommends xw40's for all model years from 1973 onwards.... Mobil 1 0w40,Schaeffer 9000 5w40,Redline 5w40 for synthetics or Delo/Rotella 15w40's would be excellent choices. I use each and all in my Porsches.

Yeah,
Those 4 cylinder Porsche engines were pretty sweet back in the day. My ex GF's dad had a 924 that had the same engine as the (non turbo) 944.

I would just use Shell Rotella or Delo cause you can get them at Walmart for little $$.

BTW,
Advance Auto Parts has discontinued Delo 15w40 in quarts for 79 cents.
