It was certainly a different time for SUVs

You want 4-doors? You gotta' get a Suburban, Wagoneer, or Travelall. Maybe a Land Cruiser but I'm not sure they were importing that style to the US at that time.

There were no Expeditions. The Bronco didn't even look like an F-150. I don't think the Ramcharger came until later in the '70s. Even if it did, neither the Bronco nor the Ramcharger came with 4-doors.

Armada was just something you learned about the Spanish Navy in history class.

Borrego was just a nonsense word. Durango was a place in Mexico.

And the idea of buying a full-size SUV at a Cadillac or Lincoln dealer would have gotten you laughed at.

My personal pick would be the Wagoneer. With a 360. They were so stylish that AMC didn't have to change anything but the shape of the headlights throughout the next 2 decades

I would. Love a power wagon with a 360 and a 4spd. Or a blazer with a 292 and 4 speed

Along with headers and a holley carb and a cam. What should I do about the egr valve with headers? How does it hook up?

IMO I would save your money--no matter what you do, it's still a 6000 lbs vehicle, a battle you will not win

Actually the ***** 55 series made it here in small numbers. I don't know if they were "official" imports or gray market, but they did get here.

As stupid as they look, they are far more stylish than just about any 2013 SUV...
