'17 Miata 97k - M1 ESP 0w-30 6.5k mi

M1 ESP 0w30 keeps serving me well. I've used it, or the 5w variant, for the last 70,000 miles or so.

Looks good.

I'm interested in how you actually drive the car. Do you beat the snot out of it? Reason I ask is because in my Z, I prefer HTHS > everything else, that's to say, I do not over look detergents.

When I owned my '19, I preferred the way the engine revved with 0w-20. Seemed to rev smoother/quicker. I switched back to M1 EP 0w20 from M1 ESP 5w30. Did seem quieter at idle with 5w30, but no difference in UOA over 5k. I do miss that car, got me thru depression during covid.

The car is driven 95% highway, with a few auto crosses per year. I certainly don’t baby it, but I’m not redlining it with ever shift, either.

Honestly, I don’t even remember how the engine was with 0w-20. After the factory fill, I’ve been using a w30 (and 0w40 once) ever since.

funny, before i bought my '20 camaro i test drove an ND2 RF Club. i'm not necessarily a horsepower guy, i just love fun cars. the ND2 was among the most enjoyable i ever drove and lived up to the hype although i found the engine a little flat. would have bought it that day but i literally couldn't fit my son's guitar in the trunk it was so small. there was just no way i could overlook some practicality issues.

still love 'em, maybe someday...

great reports OP, i wouldn't change a thing. 100k looks like nothing for these engines.

Was it a +19 ? They changed the engine power band in 2019 with a higher revving engine. The power band is different. It felt most similar to an ap2 s2k.
Agree, that's why I sold it after 18 months. Also I was generally too fat for the car. I'm short and wide and the perfect seating position was in-between two notches. I was daily driving the car. I basically had to change my shoes to something with a taller sole be comfortable. I think there are aftermarket seating rails that could resolve this but I didn't investigate. Also, my wife would freak out everytime she sat in the car thinking we'd get tboned by some stupid LA drivers. I sold it during covid and had to wait a real long time to order my SS. I'm gonna try and buy a NC later as a high mileage toy, I hear they're bigger inside.
Sway bars really change the car entirely. I couldn't take the body roll from the factory. Just didn't feel like a proper sports car I'd advise anyone that has a ND to get a pair. Huge pain to install though.
