15W-40 HDEO in a Gasoline Engine

Any comments on using a 15w40 HDEO like Delo 400 in a V-6/V-8 gas hydraulic lifter pushrod passenger car/truck engines. We use the Delo in our diesel pickup and most of our air cooled lawn equipment from 3 to 23 HP. Normal temperature range is 95 to 20 degrees F.

Slick, you can't go wrong with Delo 400 for any engine, gas or diesel. It's one of the bigger favorites on this Board.

Just sold a 1988 Lincoln Towncar with 315,000 miles. The maintenance log in the glove box says it used Delo from 18,000 miles to its present state. Still runs/drives nice. This example plus other threads make me believe a HDEO oil may be better for a gas engine than conventional oil.

I've has good results from DELO/supreme mix in my 88 Lesabre. I use it in my lawn mower as well.

I'm contemplating the same move. I have an oil burner, and using an HDEO may slow the consumption, but I'm concerned about poisoning the cat converter. anyone have any problems using HDEO and having cat problems?

Which one ends up doing better - Mobil 1 Delvac full synthetic 5w40 or the Delo 400 full synthetic 5w40?

Cutehumor echoes my only worry as well - I'll be running a magnaflow hi-flow cat. Should I expect problems? Engine is brand new and in excellent running condition.

I ran pure Delo 15w40 in my 190E as summerfill. Except for the lower mpg, Delo had quieted the engine considerably and oil psi was a lot higher..

My current fill(fall) now is a cocktail of 20/40/40 mix of Havoline Synthetic 5w30/Delo 15w40/Supreme 10w40. Mpg went up and ditto on the quietness...

Now that I'm out of SL 10w40 and going to the cooler winter months..next will be 20/40/40 Havoline Syn 5w30/Supreme 5w30/Delo 15w40.

Thanks for the posts. I had to change over one gas vehicle this week end and put 15w40 Delo 400 in. Did seem to lower the noise a bit over 10w30 we have used since new. I will be watching start up oil pressure when we get into the 20 to 30 degree F range to make sure it is ok at initial start up for colder weather. We use it for our diesel pickup year round with out plugging in for preheat and seems to work well.
