15 year old amsoil

well I can get rid of 5 of them if I do an oil change on both mowers now and dump it out again around march. i've heard over time the molecules change according to a test on here, although I didn't watch the whole video and wasn't really sure what he was getting at as far as using the old oil.

If this is the LSJr video, his conclusion on the oil oxidizing is not exactly right, or at least to the extent he thinks - via the oil initially not containing ester. Sure an oil will slowly oxidize, very slowly. Anyway a short run in a mower = no problem.

I believe so. I didn't think that made much sense because I thought excessive heat causes oxidation.

Heat does, as does 02, time in air, etc.............but the point is a bit more subtle than that.

It's an analysis thing. In simple terms: Organic analysis methods (machines) of oil can see the O ester bonds as oxidation. LSJr assumed the old oil he was testing had zero ester, but it did, decent amount. So when he checked the old bottle he said "it's oxidized", wrongly assuming no ester. Now the oil could have been slightly oxidized, or not we may never know - but not harshly as he assumed.

So I'd imagine the air would have a minimal effect

I use 5W30 small engine. Texas heat doesn’t phase it.

I’m curious what new small engines spec a 50 grade? All of my fire processing equipment, pumps, gennys, etc spec a 30 grade.

I run everything from HD30 to leftover drippings from ATV and auto changes. 15 year old AMSOIL would be a treat.

All the commercial grade engines. Kohler, kawasaki, even the commercial vanguard briggs does.

I would just use the 10w30 in my mowers etc.

It smells the same as other newer oil I have laying around. Am I good to just use this stuff? The viscosity doesn't change from age does it?

No, shake and use.

Would I use it in a NEW car? No.
