15,600 mile fram endurance from my 2018 Subaru Forester 2.5i 6 speed manual which has now had 48,000 miles of HPL oils.

Out/Off: HPL premium passenger car 0w20 Fram Endurance FE7317
In/On: HPL passenger car engine oil 5w30

Filter looks great to me. I changed oil and filter a little earlier than I wanted for a few reasons. The engine likes to sip the 0w20 from the pcv and rings more than I'd care it to. It's not excessive but enough to bug me. I drive this engine quite hard sometimes, nothing the HPL cant handle just something i can justify the 5w30 in and sleep better at night. And I've been staring at a pretty box of HPL 5w30 I've used in some other vehicles recently.

Looks real good. Thank You for cut and post.

Thanks for the c&p! Filter looks good. Nice run on the HPL. I’ve run 5w30 in my 18 Outback since day one with great results.

Do you have progression photos of the fill port between oil changes? That looks amazingly clean!
Unfortunately no. If I knew HPL was going to clean this area I would've done a before and after for sure. It started as a light varnish, something that wouldn't reflect light, but I can say that varnish is gone now and the back of the vvt solenoid and face of cam sprocket look like new. Maybe I'll stick my endoscope camera in there at the end of this interval

Thanks for posting. It sure helps me! We recently took in a 19 FB25 with 12k miles on it and I'll have a OCI coming in a few k miles. From this site's patron's I was able to find a great deal of Pennz Euro 5-30 and picked up 6 jugs for this very vehicle. She will see a good amount of highway miles so I'm going straight to 7500 OCI and a UOA.

It's my sons car but I took it to George Washington Univ for my kids baseball showcase the last few days. That was a 700+ trip for us (NY to Arlington, VA) through the hills of PA with lots of time 85-90mph. We left last night after our doubleheader at 530pm. Ya! Leaving Arlington at 530pm was what you'd expect....First hour we only went 20 miles. Cleared up after that. Stating all this as even with the high speed and traffic the FB25 returned 29mpg.

I'm certain it's been rigorously tested, however I cannot get comfortable with oil filters in these motors that are smaller than the spec filter for a 18 HP Kohler.

First thing I noticed was how tiny the filter was. My 16kw LP generator has a larger filter! I'll be cutting and posting mine for sure.

Congratulations. Good efficiency for conditions as well. I believe we are in a similar part of NY. One thing I've noticed with endoscope camera in the direct injection FB engines is just how clean the combustion chamber remains compared to the port injection FB engines, even ones that dont consume oil

how much top up?
3 quarts to maintain full mark. This time it was consistent rate, mostly rings. Can see ring wash on pistons 1 and 3. Back to 30 grade. I did replace the larger pcv valve halfway through the interval and the consumption halted for a bit.. larger valve seems to be every 10k miles and smaller one every 3k highway only consumption but it's difficult to isolate

Never heard of "[piston] Ring Wash"?

The pleat spacing is awful on this "Premium" filter SMH. A qt every 5k isn't bad but it is when running expensive oil. Maybe the HPL 5w-30 will give you a slightly slower burn off? Good pics

Some pleats are certainly wider than others, similar to my last run as well with endurance on this engine. I'm hoping the 5w30 helps. I've had more reasonable consumption with 0w30 and 0w40 in this engine in the past (around 1 quart per 7,000 mile rate) and tried going back to 0w20 with HPL this round to see any changes or improvements. If the 5w30 consumption stays reasonable it will continue with 5w30 for the foreseeable future.
