I don't quite know exactly, but the 15.5 seems a little high. The battery sits at 13.4 at the battery, and my keyless shows 12.8V after sitting all day. Are these numbers normal? High load means high low and fog beams, High A/C, rear defroster, everything but the radio(apartment) and wipers.

Can you open the caps on the battery to check electrolyte level? If the top of the plates are exposed, add distilled water to cover them. Genericly speaking, 15.5V is about a volt high. But it may be normal for this car. Do you know anybody with the same car? If so , check theirs.

Are you measuring these voltages with a hand-held volt meter across the battery leads? I'd be leary of any 'dash readout' readings.

A battery voltage of 12.8 is OK. Correct voltage is generally 12.6 V.
15.5 does sound high; is that at the battery?
Even some low/no maintanence batteries can be opened if your careful.

I'd suspect the gauge first. Get another reading from another known good meter.
15.5 is a little high. Your regulator may be going from bad to worse.

is the car cold? What is outside temp? Newer systems on some cars output higher voltage when it's cold out to compensate for the battery's reduced willingness to accept a charge at lower temps.

16V is generally considered overvolt. I'd be wary about 15.5.

Does the 15.5V increase if motor is revved?

Does the 13.1V increase ""

Take your battery off and perform a carbon pile load test. If may indicate a relatively weak battery or a battery that would slightly refuse/resists to take in charge (thus the slightly higher idle/charge voltage).

When in double/whenever possible, try swapping batteries with known good one and see if the voltage drops.

My Suzuki 3cyl gets as high as 15V during charge after a cold block cranking (and drops down to comfortably 12.8V approx. after fully recharged and at idling state) @-30C w/o block heater or so. Battery tends to suffer the most that way.
