14.5 hp Briggs flooding...

I have a 14.5 Hp Briggs in a tractor that was given to me.
The engine seems to flood badly.
Ive taken apart the carb and cleaned it(wasnt too dirty)
Ive changed out the gas/oil

The engine will crank but no start.
If i pull the spark plug gas drips out(flooded!!)

Should I look into the float/needle valve being installed imporperly??

Is there something Ive overlooked??

Im thinking the problem is carb related.

Well, maybe improperly
Also look for- a speck of dirt on needle/seat-
A punctured float (shake it. It shouldn't "slosh")
Some B&S carbs have a removable seat. You didn't post any engine numbers, so I can't tell if it does or doesn't.
Go to the B&S website and download the IPL for your engine. It might be helpful.

I always use fresh gas and stabilizer. I've ordered a new carb which is Briggs part number 791886, they've revised the carb for my engine 3 times since it was built so hopefully the newest model will do the trick, I'll let you know.

Usually it's best to soak a dirty carburetor to ensure all passages are clean and clear. Some will tell you vinegar is a good soaking solution. It seems to clean things up, but leaves a white film that sometimes doesn't come off too easy. I finally broke down and went to the parts store and bought some of the stuff that has a basket in it and will eat your face if it splashes on you. Best thing I ever bought. I look like a space alien with my gloves and goggles, but the stuff really makes things look new after 24 hours. Just make sure to remove any plastic or rubber parts before you soak. Probably could have saved you the price of a carb.

I had the same problem with our push mower that has been sitting. Tons of gas but not sounding like it was wanting to fire.

I knew it was getting fuel and air.

So I assumed it wasnt getting spark. I cleaned up the spark plug, coil and all contacts that the coil makes. I ended up finding the spark plug wire having a slit where it goes in under the cover. I put electrical tape around it and bent the spot where it was on rubbing the cover upward.

Let the mower sit for about 10 minutes came out and pulled on it and it started up

Got the flooding problem fixed, but still no-start.
Im getting fuel to feed into the carb, then into the float bowl properly.

The fuel delivery is working, just no start.

The carb is adjusted, clean and ready.

The engine will start if I pour gas into the carb, but will stall when the fuel is gone. Is there an accellerator pump of some sort??

Does yours have the electric fuel shutoff solenoid on the bottom of the bowl? If so make sure it's plugged up and clicks when you turn the key on.

Is this the Walbro or Nikki carb?

Walboro carb, and I dont hear the clicking on start up. Ill be getting one of those next.

I got it to start today, but it ran bad and stalled often.
Ill be cleaning it again, just to make sure all the gunk is out.

Apparently the Walbro is more desirable or the Nikki is NLA.
Make sure the following parts are clear-
106 Seat make sure there isn’t a rubber “o” ring looking thing wadded up in it.
117/118? Main Jet
142 nozzle
147 pilot jet
I think getting those cleared/cleaned should fix your problem.

Just wanted to let you know that the new carb did the trick.
Today was my third mowing since I installed the new carb and
the tractor has never run this smooth and with so much power, not even when it was brand new. The old carb was a Walbro with the throttle and choke on the same control, the new one has a separate choke and installing the choke cable was quick and easy.
