Used to drill the head out and insert a "heli coil"??? that replaced the original threads. Advice? Probably going to send the guy down the road to a "professional", but maybe things aren't as hard as they used to be. I keep lots of heads around for Briggs, Tecumseh and smaller (5 HP) Hondas. This looks like it might be a job.

It's a generator that can't have more than a few hours on it. Dang people.

Heli coil even makes a kit with the threaded inserts and comes with thread cutter with a 3/8 drive in the butt of the tool.
I bought mine a napa. Its a must have if you drive any fords 2v engines.

This is a WAY better fix than a Helicoil for something that will need to be removed and replaced occasionally like a sparkplug. When you install it, use a high strength thread locker on the insert (NOT on the sparkplug, use a small amount of anti-seize on the sparkplug), like Loctite Red 271. You don't need to drill out the sparkplug hole, just use the appropriate tap for the insert. The correct way to do this would be to remove the head but if you don't want to do this put some heavy grease on the tap to keep most of the metal shavings out of the engine.

This one isn't an easy, cheap replace. It's a 13 HP monster Chonda. For some reason it has a Japanese carburetor on it (stock). Go figure. The guy hasn't got back to me yet, so I don't know which way we will go. Would just love to have it out of my garage.

Helicoils are so easy, can't be very expensive or time consuming. Just do it and have the culprit pay for the kit.

What's wrong with a heli-coil. Red Locktite on the new threads and its never coming out.
And heli-coil has a kit with a tap and the threads. No brainer to be honest
