10w-40 or 15w-40 for 286k+?

hi everyone. i have honda civic with 2000 lx with 286k miles currently. it's not burning oil, i change recently oil pan seal and everything else. should i stay with 10w-40 motor oil that i'am using now (mobil super hm) or should i move to some 15w40 the ones that are universal for diesel and gasoline engines? thanks...

Don't mess with success. Either would work in your climate as would a nice straight 30.

No reason to go thick, it might even increase consumption. Stick with whatever the manual recommends if you aren't burning oil.

I think you can use 5-10W30(standard or HM) in the Civic, no need to use heavier grade xW40. Unless your Civic consumes a lot of oil with 5-10W30.

Congrats on the high miles. Like others I recommend 5 or 10w30 if no burning or leaking is apparent.

A high-mileage 5w30 would work just fine. There is no need for something crazy like a 10w40 or heavier.

Stay with the 10W-40 High Mileage IMO. Or you can go 10w30 High Mileage and get one tenth of a MPG better.

Since your seal is replaced and the car is no longer leaking oil, you should move to a 5w30.

With no leaks or consumption reported by the OP I'd go with Pennzoil Conventional or Quaker State Defy in 10w30. Or perhaps Rotella T6 5w40 if it actually needs a 40 weight.
