Can't handle a 10W-40 huh? I thought Honda's were supposed to be tougher than that.

Why waste the oil use it. I bought a 1980 Accord in the mid 80s with 86,000 miles on it. Previous owner only used 10w 40 on it since new. I did the same used 10w 40 year around with 3000 mile OCI. Drove it to 186,000 miles before I sold it. It was still running with nothing but 10w 40 in it new thru 186,000 miles. I find it hard to believe its going to hurt the motor with 10w 40 in it.

Don't waste your money (you need it to pay for gas). Run the 10W-40 Syntec for 5-6000 miles in the coming warm months and then switch to the 5w30 or 5W-20 of your choice.

My 2 cent's worth:

With a 7th gen civic in our family possession, I do not have anything against the use of 5W20 (PacificNW) but instead, having an interesting time figuring out why use anything thicker than 10W30 in Honda engines nowadays......(*sigh*)

I now regularly switches between 5W20 and Formula Shell SM 5W30 (I can get Canadian blended F Shell way cheaper--- the price for a 4L jug equiv to 2 bottles of Quaker State 5w20 conventional, go figure) and no problems with the engine whatsoever.

I'm with 427Z06. Suggest you drain the 10W-40 and save it for an engine that is specced for it. The Honda engines run very well on the oil specced for them 5W-20. I do a lot of highway driving in the summer in our 02 Accord, Pennzoil 5w20 conventional, have had excellent used oil analysis.

You don't need 5w30 in your engine. It will run very well for a long long time on 5W-20 with proper attention and care.
