I have a Kawasaki FT730V on my zero turn. I mow 5 acres once a week. Fuel is 89 octane ethanol free, treated with seafoam. I was using Kawasaki 4 stroke ktech 10w-30 and switched to Kawasaki 4 stroke ktech 10w-40.

I'm noticing a increase in fuel consumption. Can I safely mix the two oils to create a 35w in hopes of reducing fuel consumption while still getting the benefits of using the 10w-40 albeit reduced? Looking for a sweet spot. Manual states I can use either or due to temperature range. Logically it should be fine.

I also tend to mix my breakfast cereals with good results. 50/50 of raisin bran and fiber one. Seems to work well. I can tolerate the taste better while still maintain a healthy bowel movement.

What say you?

I also doubt that you are seeing a change in fuel consumption due to the oil. You never mentioned your location but when mowing 5 acres a 40 grade oil is probably appropriate. Personally I run 15w-40 synthetic Rotella T6 in my rider that sees 50 minutes per cut here in SE PA. I had run 10w-30 M1 HM for five years and cannot say that I notice any difference. Back then I had a 2001 Volvo with over 200k on the clock needing 10w-30 High Mileage. Lately I am able to use dedicated oils for the OPE.

As others have said, lose the Seafoam. Seafoam has its uses but there is no need to treat Ethanol Free fuel for storage. I have some 50:1 2-cycle fuel on hand mixed with E0 over 18 moths ago and it is still going strong.

The viscosity is given a 30 or a 40 depending on the centistokes at 100 C. If an oil is between 10 and 12.4 centistokes, it's considered a 30. If the oil is between 12.5 and 16.3 centistokes, it's considered a 40. Hence, no SAE 35.
