10w-30 or 5w-40 for engines over 200k?

hi everyone, thanks for answering me in the topic before 5w-40 vs 10w-40. still i'am thinking shoul'd i stay with 10w30 or switch to 5w-40 full synth or blend because of high miles on engine? my car have 245k on engine and manual says 5w30, but that's to my opinion when the car has less miles. that's why i'am thinking to switch to 5w-40 for extra protection with this mileage, maybe i'am wrong, any answer/opinion is welcome.thanks....

Whatever got the car to 245k isn't going to kill it.

I'd stick with 5w30 and keep doing whatever you're doing.

I run 5w30 Havoline conventional in my parent's '96 LeSabre with 299K miles on it. The manual calls for 10w30. There's no change in consumption and the 5W flows slighty better when cold.

5w30 Valvoline Maxlife is a synthetic blend that would be a "thick" 5w30 if that's what you're after.

I don't think 5w40 offers any extra protection for your application. Stick with 5w30 if that's not causing any issues and has gotten you 245K on the car!

My '94 LS400 is over 270k miles, the recommended is 5W30 and just changed to Valvoline Synpower 5W20 a month ago. The car had been consuming 1/2 quarts 5-10W30 every 3-4k miles and so far the consumption rate is about the same with 5W20.

If your car does not consume excessive amount of oil with 5W30 then stick with it, no need to go thicker.
