10K Drains

Mike,

I ran 15,000 mile drain intervals with Amsoil in this engine and had excellent oil analysis results. I don't see why Mobil 1 shouldn't last for 10,000.

I agree with Mike Sparks - I'd run the Mobil 1 EP formulation - either their 5w30 or 10w-30 instead of the 0w-40.

Michael,

Just to make sure this is burned into your memory for your friend's sake, make sure your friend uses ONLY VW 502.00 approved oil & changes it @10k mile intervals max.

Any oil changes over 10k and/or un-documented (no oil & filter receipts, etc.) in the 2.0L & VW will say bye-bye warranty.

IMO, 10K miles on M1 0w-40 should be no problem at all in this engine, assuming it doesn't take you more than a year to get there.

As far as filters, M1 is fine. I'd probably stick with the OEM one (also very good) to not give any reason to VoA to void any warranty. You can buy those on line for much less than what the dealer charges, too.
