On average over the long term, Ford's vehicles are relatively close to the inflation rate. However higher trim new F150's are as much as 50% more than they should be when compared to a CPI (consumer price index calculator) adjusted, real world price in 2009.
Put another way, my 2009 4x4 Lariat was $38K. My 2024 V8 Lariat was listed at $74 and I paid $66K. However, I had a Ford coupon. Otherwise it would have been $70K. The new truck is not mechanically better either. Smaller V8 with less torque, more bothersome transmission speeds. The exact same 4x4 transfer case and differentials, with the exception of limited slip. The new truck does not have.
Both have the same towing rating.
Any significant 'across the board' price increase might be just another hit during an economic downturn.
New 2024 truck purchased in Sept
The 2009, which in some ways had better equipment. As it actually had limited slip. A rear sway bar, a much tougher steel body, and considerably more torque. Along with not just ventilated front seats, but peltier cooled and bigger seats.
