Changed the 30 wt oil in my boat and put in 10/40 like the tag on the engine said to. My engine runs better on the top end and seems to idle much smoother with the 10/40. Maybe the old volvo 2.3 litre engine really does prefer 10/40 oil to straight 30 weight. The mechanic at the dealership said to run straight 40 wt as volvo had revised their recommendations but i thought i would try the old 10/40 and see what happened. Can't argue with results. This boat might see 25 hors of use this season so am i really pushing the 10/40 additives beyond their endurance?

I would recommend a 15w/40 fleet oil . These oils the additive package needed to protect your engine. Try delo 400,Shell rotella or Mobil delvac 1300 . These oils should be easy to find .
