10,000 mile MotorGuard M100 Filter Change (Ford 5R110)

Another 10,000 mile filter change on the Ford 5R110, using Valvoline Max Life ATF. Add a quart of fluid and repeat in another 10,000 miles.:)

this OEM filter or add on.. what does it look like or model info. I do a pan drain and refill every 35-40K as we tow a lot pulling RV. this keep the fluid like new .. only filter is one in pan that is good for 400K with no issues in trans according to former ford trans engineer.

No, it's a MotorGuard M100 filter, very similar to the 08 job 1 filters that came with the 5R110. Here's a picture.

No need to drop the pan, ever! Is your setup in the cooler loop, or pressure test port with pan or dipstick return?
I once had a 61 Buick Electra 225. The fluid was cooled by fins on the torque converter. No oil cooler lines. I got out my Motors Repair manual. I used a high accumulator test plug for pressure and returned the fluid to the oil pan with a self tapping hollow bolt. It only filtered in drive. Being a kid I had a gauge on the dash. I believe when I shifted into drive the pressure jumped to 80 PSI. Motor Guard with the orifice left in. I used a Gulf Coast Junior on a Powerstroke with a Gulf Coast transmission adapter. Its actually 2 tees with a orifice in between. Gulf Coast used a 1/8 inch orifice. Frantz used a size smaller. Some old time Frantz users just drilled out the Frantz orifice and put the Frantz in series with the cooler. Some smaller transmissions dont have enough fluid flow for the adapters to work. I normally never change the toilet paper after the first time unless im curious. Dont remove the pan. I think the best thing to flush the transmission is clean ATF.

My 76 F250 has a screen also a screen in the 06 Nissan Altima. The Chevy Impala transmission I put on a 4 cylinder Chevy engine and put in a Farmal H has a decent filter in the pan. Probably over kill but I put a Motor Guard on it. The F250 has a Gulf Coast junior on it. Actually the screen in the Ford will last over 1 million miles with no Gulf Coast Junior.

Its a waste of time and money doing a with and without the Motor Guard test. The with the Motor Guard will win every time. Its the same with the Frantz Gulf Coast junior the Australian Jackmaster Classic and any toilet paper filter. I dont run on dirty motor oil either.

I did it different on the Subaru. I converted a M 60 compressed air filter to filter ATF. I reached in to the outlet and drilled a 1/8 inch orifice and put it in series with the oil cooler. This would work with a oil cooler sandwich adapter. The oil would heat up faster for you Canadians. When I was selling Motor Guards I sent them to Norway Germany and northern Canada.
