I everyone, finally a member here but been lurking for over a year. My family have 3 cars, a CRV, TL and a CX9. The CRV recom weight is 0w-20 while the TL and CX9 is 5w-20. I would prefer just buying 1 weight oil for all 3 cars. What are your thoughts? Currently, my stash is 3 jugs of Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 and 5 jugs of PU/Castrol Edge (SM). Thanks for your input.

It has to be awful cold to truly gain much with 0w-20 over 5w20. As long as the CRV isn't under warranty, I'd find a quality, good flowing 5w20 for all of them and be done with it.

You could run 0-20 or 5-20 in all of them. I would run 0-20 in the CRV until the warranty is up just to avoid the hassle, although that is not a strict requirement of the warranty.

I agree with Tig1, any 0W20 is good in all 3 engines. Since Mobil 1 0W20 is selling at the same price as Mobil 1 5W20 at Walmart for $27.xx 5qt jug, why not buy/use it ?
The other good 0W20 is Toyota full synthetic, if you can buy it at a Toyota dealer for around $5-5.50/qt.

My vote: If go synthetic 0W20, dino of course you don't have a choice 5W20.
Regardless, I say use 1 oil for all of them. Depends on your oil filling habit,, you may save some $ by sticking 1 brand and 1 viscosity. Assuming the CRV is 4.5qt, then 4.5+4.5 = 9, instead of using 5+5. Of course depends if you buy 5qt jug or 1 qt bottle.

I like the Toyota oil's high moly content. Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy is a solid oil, as well.

Moly is lower no, but it is likely using a different type that is just as effective at far lower concentration.

Since money doesn't appear to be an issue, then 0W-20 would be my choice. Since you already have eight jugs (assuming they are 5 qt jugs), then you are set for quite a while yet. There might be a bigger selection of 0W-20 brands by the time you're ready to purchase again.

Not trying to be a hater, but I fail to see the big inconvienence in buying the grade of oil that each vehicles's manual recommends? If the Honda takes 0w20 buy a 5 qt jug, if the Acura takes 5w20 buy a 5 qt jug and be done with it. No it probably woulnd hurt runing 0w20 in all vehicles, but why not just use what the diffent vehicles ask for?
