1 micron bag filter ?

Hi,
I recently purchased a used car that has a long OCI and the oil is not cheap so I am wanting to drain and filter the oil to see what if anything is floating around, does anyone know if a 1 micron bag filter will allow warm 0W40 to pass, if not will 5 micron work?

Sure it will pass. The average oil molecule is smaller than a micron.

This is for your E60? Castrol 0W-40 at Walmart is expensive?

Mobil 1 5qt. jugs including 0w-40 are on rollback at Walmart to $22.xx. There's also the rebate going on now. Don't strain the oil and reuse it.

Yes it will work, they have 0.5 micron bags too, but the cost may be higher for not much benefit. You won't get much out of the oil though it's mostly a good idea for filtering oil that has been through a dirty pan that you want to go in the lawnmower or something

The OP hasn't responded yet, but if it's for his E60 then the current Mobil 1 0W-40 FS doesn't carry Longlife-01. That's why I suggested the Castrol.

But +1 on the filtering. I have a feeling he's using Liqui Moly and paid a lot for it.

Filtering won't remove moisture, acids, won't replenish the TBN, etc.

THIS......

use the Walmart Mobil 1 and just don't do a Long Life OCI.....run it 10,000 miles and change it.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm considering this because the oil only has 3-4k on it and it seems a waste to throw out oil at a third of it's life just to get a better idea of how the engine was treated in it's previous life...

What would you see anyway? What isn't the oil filter filtering?
