0W20 causes lifter tick whereas 5W20 does not.

use recommended oil weight dont go all dr haas unless you have a perfect engine you can maybe lose ? .

my giess is that the 5W-20s have lower HTHS and therefore its 0S-20 rating is high on the "0" side of the SAW system, and 5W-20 is better in those apps.

In my experience, an oil's chemistry plays as much a role in dealing with lifter noise as an oil's viscosity.
In particular, an oil's tendency for entrainment varies markedly with different oils. I've experienced lifter noise with a 20w50 conventional and perfect silence with Toyota's (Nippon oil) 0W-20 in the same engine.

My advise therefore is to try a different brand or two of the same viscosity before giving up and going with a higher viscosity oil altogether.
