I took a mono-grade 10W and SAE 20 and blended them on a chart to arrive just under KV100 8.2, I'll call it 15W16 because without testing, that is all we can assume.

KV40 55
KV 100 8.2
HTHS 2.7

The 0W16 and 5W16 grades will look quite different than my mono-grade mock-up,
but I doubt if the HTHS will be much higher than 2.7

Other ways of mocking-up SAE 16 would be to blend SAE 10W to either 5W20 or 0W20.

Would there be fuel economy gains by lowering the KV40 from 55 to 45,
or the KV100 from 8.2 to 7.5?

If we lower the HTHS below 2.7, we can achieve that now with a SAE 10W, and forget SAE 16 altogether.

Thoughts?

After another of your posts recently, and some of the 16s which show a very stable Harman Shear Stability (low VI compared to the 0W20s)...and have been looking at the HTHS of the Newtonian (Non Viied) oils.

e.g. Citgo, which has HTHS as well

the 10W has
KV40 - 38.9Cst
KV100 - 6.6Cst
HTHS - 2.3Cp
VI - 126

The KV100 is 16 range, and the HTHS is 2.3, only 0.1 (or maybe only 0.051 as one 20 proponent states correctly) off the HTHS for a 16.

Still looking, but I'm quietly positive that there's a monograde 10W16 out there.

Reinforces my previous statements that I think the 16 grade is actually an improvement over the 0W20s.
