0w-40 in a LT1

I have a 93 Z28 with the LT1 in it. Is Mobil 1 0w-40 a good choice for this motor? If so why?

Mobil 1 0W-40 is on the 'thin' side of the SAE40 grade, while GC 0W30 is very 'thick' SAE30 oil which is very close to the SAE40 spec.

It shouldn't pose a problem in your engine whatsoever and should deliver below-average wear. Another good choice is German Castrol Syntec 0w30 which is commonly available in l'États-Unis and Canada.

Another good option is the Valvoline Maxlife 10w30 or 10W-40... or perhaps a Synpower 5W-40. Do you care about "energy conservating" oils?

According to Mobil, it's 14.3 cSt @ 100º C.

SAE viscosity for forty weights is 12.5 to 16.3 cSt, giving us an arithmetic mean of 14.4 cSt.

I believe I will try the OW40 on my Formula's next oil change. I really like my Mobil 1 10w30 / Mobil 1 15w50 mix though!

I would say it is a good choice based on uoa reports I have seen. Second only to Castrol Syntec 0w30 (SLX/GC). Either would be excellent.

I have an 88 IROC with the LB9 engine. I've been running Mobil 1 5w30 in it for ages. I'll stick with that for the winter months, but coming this summer, I'll start using the Mobil 1 Truck/SUV stuff during the warm weather months.

I'm using Mobil 1 0w-40 on my LT1. Oil will be coming out soon, hopefully with an analysis.
