My Liberty did not come with a transmission dip stick, just a cap over the tube. Does anyone know if a dip stick from a '07 or older Liberty will fit an 09?

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe there is a nut that you have to open when running and warm and if nothing is coming out it is low. This is similar to my Malibu. I am not 100% for the Liberty

I have an 08, it is exactly the same. There is no dipstick, they want the dealer to check the fluid level. I got a dipstick from an 06-07 Liberty which fits but doesn't accurately measure the fluid. I used the stick from the 06-07 to make my own. What I did was had the dealer confirm the level was in fact full from the factory, drove the Jeep around for 30 miles, stopped and let it idle in park for about 3 minutes, measured the temperature on a corner of the pan [and recorded it] then cut a hot fluid level into the stick. I then checked the level several times over a period of a few weeks after at least 20 minutes worth of driving [temp +/- about 10 degrees F of the original reading], and the level always comes to that mark that I cut in the dipstick.

I also fooled around with the cold level, but the hot level after 3-5 minutes of idling in park after a 20-30 minute ride works best. HTH

Yep, it's happening all over. Save $5 on a dipstick, pay hundreds to have a dealer do it with their equipment. You can do this yourself, but it's a big pain in the you-know-what without your own lift.

When I did a transmission oil change on my VW (they were there a decade ago...) I just carefully measured out how much I took out, down to the milliliter, and put that much back in and called it good.
