By the way, if anyone sees this, can anyone recommend a good hand-pump for transferring fluid from an AMSOIL bottle into a rear-diff? And/or a place to find 3/8" inner diameter tubing?

I have redline 75W90 in Outback diff and 75W90NS in 5-speed manual trans. I'd also give the Amsoil Severe Gear a go
Just an FYI, I just ordered AMSOIL 75w110 Severe Gear. 4 quarts for my trans, 1 quart for my rear diff.
I thought long and hard about this and I won't truly be comfortable until I experience it. Subaru owners who have messed around with different gear lubes (such as AMSOIL, Redline, or "cocktails") report substantial benefits to shifting, NVH, and gear whine on engine braking over the stock fluids, Mobil 1 75w90, etc.
So I'm hoping for all of the benefits, long life, drivetrain protection, and none of the negatives people have experienced with the "cocktails".
AMSOIL has treated me right so far with their TSO 0w30, SSO 0w30, and MTF ... all in my Civic SI.
I hope it continues that way!

I have run Swepco 201, SF MTL-R, and currently Subaru Extra-S in my WRX. The Extra-S has been great and I highly recommend it. Why go out of spec to 75w-110? I do not think it will shift any better than an equivalent Amsoil 75w-90. I do not see a need to experiment when there are good fluids which meet Subaru's spec of 75w-90 GL-5.

I decided to go with AMSOIL instead of Extra-S for a number of reasons:
- There isn't a ton of info on Extra-S, but I know it's not synthetic and has a very slightly higher pouring point (I think -46 celcius vs. -48 for the 75w110)
- I like to contribute to the body of knowledge, so going with AMSOIL will help me add a data point for others.
- AMSOIL 75w110 is the same cost of Extra-S (for a preferred customer) and I wanted to buy some new AMSOIL MTF anyway for my 06 SI.
- AMSOIL 75w110 is actually the same spec as the old 75w90 (see earlier posts in this thread), except it's kinematic viscosity is at the top range of the old spec for 75w90....i.e. the range was ~13-24 and 75w110 is around 21-23 on that range versus most 75w90s being lower.
I literally just decided to pull the trigger. I can always go to Extra-S if I don't like the AMSOIL.

If you really want Amsoil, choose either FGR or SVG. FGR has no/less FM which is supposedly better for synchro action, and is recommended by Pablo. SVG has FM but has a lot of good reviews on WRX forums.

IMHO, synthetic trans oil is not important. If the oil shifts well, it means there's less wear on the synchro. One can pick a synthetic manual transmission fluid that does not shift well, and I can guarantee you that there is more wear, without seeing an UOA.
