That's what I would do at least
It depends on how long you plan on running your oil changes out for, and how much you drive to determine whether or not synthetic would be worth the extra cost.

It does not matter what you use so much as long as you change the fluid every 6 months or when the milage limit is up wich ever comes first. I am big fan of Mobil 1 in Toyota's. If that where my truck I would have either Mobil 1 0W40 or 5W40 in it year round.My next sugestion would be their HM 10W30 and then their plane jane 5W30.

I have always run Pennzoil Conventional, and changed every 3-4k in my cars.
I would start running synthetic if I thought it was better in the long run. I will probably have the truck for many years....at least 100k.
If I do run synthetic, can I do it now, and how many miles between changes?

You can run synthetic if you want, mileage should be determined via used oil analysis. If it's mostly highway miles in a relatively short period of time, I'd feel comfortable going to 5,000 miles without a used oil analysis, but it can probably go further, but I wouldn't do it without a used oil analysis first.

If you go by the recommended service intervals (is it still 5k miles?) then a good dino would suffice. And since it's still under warranty I would definitely suggest sticking to Toyota's recommended interval. If you like the feeling of having synthetic then you can do that too. I usually get syns when they are bogo or free after rebate. If you want to save a few bucks then any SM rated oil will last 5k.

Want the truth? Go to Walmart, pick out what bottle is the most pretty (in the proper grade and SM rated), grab a Supertech filter and change the oil per the owners manual and you will be fine. Don't get caught up in thinking that spending more will protect the engine better. If you are going to do anything special, use a OEM Toyota filter because they give you a replacement oil drain plug gasket for free with it if you ask

I would run a synthetic 5w30 in that truck especially if towing and during the summer. If you change the oil every 5000 miles like I do, a synthetic certainly does not hurt, and here's the cost difference over the life of the truck:
Conventional Oil @ $2/qt with $2 filter over 125,000mi = $350
Synthetic Oil @ $6/qt with $5 filter over 125,000mi = $1025
So over 10-12 years you could save a few hundred running a conventional, but on a $25000 truck I'll leave it up to you If you go double the distance on the synthetic, it makes the cost negligible and saves you time under the truck so you can go cut the lawn

Pennzoil conventional or synthetic ... depends on how long you want your OCIs. 0-4K OCIs? - conventional......4K-manufacturer maximum?.... synthetic.
We have a fleet of Tundras (4.7l 4x4 crewcab) that see 21 hour service, idle most of the day, respond to incidents / calls and they are lucky to get iffy Lubed every 7-9k with QS/Pennzoil 5w30.
They are running excellent after 100+K, have no issues other than weak brakes (which syn will fix
) and use little oil over the OCI.
With the $625 (a few hundred?) using the numbers above, @ $4 a gallon gas (end of next week nationwide MIN) that is almost 3000 miles worth of gas.
In the end of 125k (or 250k) your engine is not going to know the difference what you ran with 5k OCIs.
We have the older models and the new one. New ones do seem to have better brakes, ride a little rougher and the state contract specs the 4.7l. So I have no experience with the 5.7l.

My experience is also with the 4.7L. If yours is like the 4.7 then I agree with others that any 20 or 30 weight would likely be fine. I have run dino, synthetic blend, and now Mobil 1 in mind. One thing I have noticed is that it seems to like the 5w30 better than a 10w30. There is a difference in gas mileage. In your part of the country, I would give a hard look at the new 0w30 Mobil 1 that has recently come out. Saw it at Walmart the other day. I'll bet this would be an excellent year round oil for you.
I would doubt there will be any real difference over the life of the engine if syn or conventional oil is used at 5,000 mile oil change intervals. The only difference is the price you pay .

I've run 0W-20 Amsoil ASM in my '07 Tundra 5.7L since about 2,600 miles. Works well - see the used oil analysis section as I've done a used oil analysis on every oil change.
Look at my used oil analysis, it seems that the 5.7L engine is pretty easy on oil. While I'm completely happy with the Amsoil, I'd guess that any quality 0W-20 or 5W-20 would do a good job. I'd hesitate to use an XW-30 oil, as it isn't recommended by Toyota and it seems to cost a few MPG in mileage per folks who have tried it on Tundra Solutions msg boards. (Plus, looking at my 0W-20 used oil analysis the 0W-20 protects perfectly well - don't seen any reason to go to a 30.)
I run the Amsoil as I want to run the 0W-20 and it arrives at my door for a little more than I'd pay for Mobil 1. Plus I don't have to drive all over town trying to piece together 8 quarts for a change.
I will say that the last time I was in Walmart I was looking at the 5W-20 Motorcraft semi-syn oil, wondering how it might do. I just might try it when I'm out of ASM.
Enjoy your Tundra - mine is the nicest thing I've ever driven. Now that it's almost summer, I'm getting 19.6 MPG out of my CrewMax, which is about what my old Ranger V6 got!

Well maybe this fact has not been made clear but all 0W20's that I am aware of are synthetic! Most 5W20 are at least partialy synthetic. So if you use 0W20 by default it would be a synthetic and if you use a 5w20 SM oil it will be at least a blend if it says so on the label or not. You follow??? That is why I did not make a huge distinction about it when discussing th Xw20 it is kind of common knoldge on this site so I apoligise!! So when I talked about other viscosities I went right to synthetic. Again though it is not going to matter what you run just make sure it is SM or better. Heck conventional 5w30 SM oil would work great as well. Seriously use what you have on hand Pennzoil is fine. Toyota V8's are not picky about their oil at all they just do not in general like long OCI's.
Different motor. Different truck. I love my 06 double cab, although I would like to have the 07's brakes, transmission and motor. Oh yeah, it seems to like Pennzoil 5w30
