07 Mustang power steering fluid

Power steering is starting to howl when turning the steering wheel (yet another issue with this car). The fluid is exactly halfway between the low and full mark in the reservoir,so I'm going to do a turkey a baster freshen up/top off on it tonight. I searched online last night and from what I've read it uses atf. I have some Mobil 1 ATF that I use in my car to keep it fresh. Is it ok to use that in the Mustang as well?

Calls for Mercon V, so your Mobil 1 ATF should be fine.

This stuff has helped power steering noise/cold weather stiffness in 2 of our vehicles. In fact, the pump would get so much resistance the belt would squeal on my Corolla and I had to overtighten the belt. The Lubegard fixed it. I'd try a bottle.

Walmart Supertech Mercon V is also fine, only $4.27 a quart but if you got some Mobil 1 ATF sitting around it's also fine, but pricey. I never changed the fluid in my Taurus, went over 200k, started to whine one day and I did the turkey baster and it was fine afterwards. I found the little leak too, was a line going to the power steering pump.

MaxLife also has a power steering fluid that's supposed to prevent leaks. That may be worth a shot. I think it's about the same price as well.

135k on my '96 and just got its first fluid exchange this year. Mostly M1 but I ran out and had to use some MC Mercon V as well. Smooth and quiet.

I used maxlife atf in my 02 Mustang PS. It runs quiet. Well as quiet as a Ford PS unit can be.

First replace the current fluid with synthetic ATF.

If steering is still loud, test your serpentine belt and automatic belt tensioner.

i turkey basted some old valvoline dex/merc into mine at 70k then flushed out and put some amsoil atf back in it. it is a lot quieter now. when i flushed mine out i had a helper to shut off the engine. when it was flushed i turned the engine over with the starter motor to get any air bubbles out, there were a few. its way too easy to get air in the system so i would try purging the system as well.

I run maxlife ATF in power steering on my 67 f250 and it works great. Ran it in the 2000 Camry I recently sold and it worked great. Pretty sure I put it in my brothers Nissan truck also. It's synthetic and cheap. If you have enough Mobil 1 then go for it. If not, I would recommend picking up some maxlife.
