My son has a Chevy 07 HHR. Frequently for no apparent reason the traction control kicks in and makes the transmission shift erratically. Have to pull of the road and cut the engine to stop the problem. Anyone know if the traction control can somehow be disabled. Thanks

Has he looked through the manual?, most cars have a way to disable TC when spinning your tires is necessary.
If its simple braked TC, maybe he can find an ABS fuse and pull it.

How about the button on the dash? It doesn't disable it, but it does turn TC off until you restart the car. The button is located directly to the right of the interior light dimmer switch, on the center stack.

Have him try turning it off, and see if it is the TC and not something in the transaxle?

Do you have the same tires all around? Different brands/treads/sizes can freak a TCS/VSC system out!

I'm thinking you got a bug in the DBW system or CAN bus communication to the PCM. One of the GM guys would know it better.

Don't know if he's tried this or not, but I'll make him aware of it. That might be a solution. Thanks

check the ground on the computer. some times they solder copper wires to steel. course you know that copper does NOT solder well to steel.
