the oil now or wait for another 500 miles?

I'm still debating on dino or synethic for the long haul; but for now, dino will go back in for at least the next 15k miles.

In my 06 Frontier, I changed at 500, again at 1500 and will be converting to synthetic at 3000. It certainly won't hurt anything but your wallet.

The difference between 500 and 1000 may not be that great, but i would certainly vote for changing it by at least 1000 miles.

My car (Mazda V6) had 200 miles on it when i bought it and I changed it right at 1000 miles. That didn't take too long though with a trip to OKC the week i bought it and another the next weekend to Houston. The only real precaution i used was not using the cruise for the first 500 miles and trying to vary my speed and keeping the RPM's down while it was cold.

So far no problems 47,000 miles later. I've only used dino and blends.

When i bought my 2002 Tacoma i went 5K till i changed the original oil and no at almost 62K no oil burn or any engine troubles. I dont see why its important to change the original oil so early, yea the engine is breaking in so.....

There is definately more stuff in the oil in a new engine. However, whether it will affect the wear of your engine is another question.

When in doubt change it out. Can't hurt and most likley will helpin the long run.How long do you plan on keeping the machine?

Indefinitely.

Still have our 21yr old Toyota p/up that we just can't seem to part with, rolling on 300k now. That's the only way to get ahead of the financial game, if you will, is to keep them indefinitely - as long as they're not problematic vehicles.

This is the only true reason why we try to buy our vehicles as close to new as possible, so that hopefully they were not previously abused and will serve us a LONG time.

Our three last newest vehicles, an '01 Diesel cummins bought with 30k, currently at 80k; '97 Rodeo bought with 11k, currently at 156k, and our late '91 Rodeo with 5k miles traded at 180K+ for the above diesel.

We ONLY traded that Rodeo because we needed an open bed to carry the camper - wished I had sometimes just found a way to make the Rodeo an open bed. Good truck it was!

I don't think it's important though I have a hard time resisting the ritual Run a full OCI and spend the time in the yard or with family. The early oil change seems to be obsessive compulsive with no documented benefits in longevity.

I agree that it is unnecessary to change the oil that early, but if it makes people sleep better at night, I don't see the harm. Like it has been said, it'll only hurt the wallet. Heck, you can do 500 mi OCIs if you want without doing any harm to your vehicle.

When it comes down to it, it's your vehicle... maintain it however you wish. No one here is going to warranty your vehicle if there's a problem after following their advice.

Very true. I'm actually not sure what to do, honestly, as I've never owned a vehicle this new before.

Still have one more day before the weekend, quess I'll decide on Friday. Doesn't help that my Toy is due for an OCI - 6k miles on Delo 400 and Napa Gold.

I don't even know what I want to use in this truck, either. Use to be a strict Havoline user, but now I'm kind of across the board; have 2 trucks on Delo 400; one on Motorcraft; and have no idea what's in this one.

I bought an '06 Xterra too. I did my first oil change at 3k miles. Will extend to 5K for the next one and then follow 7.5K recommendation from Nissan. I am using Pennzoil Platinum. I don't always recommend synthetics but I am using it in my Xterra since there is a small skid plate that protects the oil filter that you must always take off. It's a nice feature, but it sure is more time consuming.

I have two new Toyota's(my wife and I liked the duality (4runner and a Tacoma) with the same 4.0 engine between them. I did a 1k mile change on the Tacoma but plan(I almost faltered Tuesday @ 1600miles and was about to drop the oil before I changed my mind)to run the 4 runner to 5k or 6 months on factory fill.
In retrospect I wish I hadn't wasted the factory fill in the Tacoma. Anyhow I am running Tropartic for a while with Wix filters.
No worries for the Nissan either you got a very good engine in and they actually gave your V6 a decent sump capacity this time.
