06 VW GLI consumes GC!

My sister-in-law had a 2000 Golf that used a quart every 2500 miles, which the local VW dealer deemed normal during a call to a service tech.

what the wife dont know wont hurt her. just take a trip down there and get it done. she wont notice the difference. jsut as long as you keep your grin down to a minium all should be fine

I always heard VW engines always consume some oil. so to me I wouldnt worry about it. but I never owned a VW so I cant say for sure. I might get one one year.

I have an '06 GTI which has the same 2.0T FSI engine. Did the first oil change at 3,000 miles. Oil level was still at the full mark.

Put in Mobil 1 0W-40 and I'm now approaching 8,000 miles or 5,000 miles on the oil. Oil level has remained rock steady at the full mark.

I plan on changing every 5,000 miles. This is probably a little soon but with the turbo's heat and all I thought it wise.

Why not just keep the GC and use the slightly thicker 5w40 syntec as your topup oil?

Your engine is still very new.
What was the break-in style?
The vast majority of engines start their lives consuming some oil.
If you're babying your car, I would recommend driving it harder in order to allow the rings to properly seat against the cylinder walls.
Don't afraid to open her up on the freeway on-ramps.
I mean short (5-10 sec) bursts of wide open throttle all the way to the redline, a couple of times per day won't do any harm to your engine, only good.

Well, it's getting better! You went from 1/2 quart, now down to 1/3 quart, and less speed to boot!!
