Hey everyone! I've researched a ton of stuff on this forum over the years and I finally decided to sign up. Not sure why I waited so long but either way here we are.

So I'm looking at tires for my 2006 Silverado 2500 Duramax. I've been researching for about a month now and I can't seem to decide on which tire to go with. I need some real world opinions on the selection of tires I'm looking it.

Cooper Discovery Rugged Trek
Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT
BFGoodrich HD Terrain T/A KT
BFGoodrich KO3
Mickey Thompson Baja Legend EXP
Falken Wildpeak R/T01

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I have not experience with any tires there, except the Duratrac (not the RT), and The King, BFG AT.

I reckon it has more to do with your location and use.

Overall, I have found the BFG KO 1,2 to be the greatest performer on ALL terrain, overall. They have great offroad performance, and are quiet, and good life. I have used them on jeeps and larger HD trucks, pulled heavy trailers offroad with them, and have never let me down. There is a reason why all tire manufactures compare their ATs, to the BFG.

That being said, The Duratrac is the best off road only tire I have used on a HD truck. Excellent ice and snow performance, with heavy loads, again not the RT version you cited.

The BFG HD Terrain and the KM 3 patterns are very similar, but coul d see some treadwear life differences due to the siping. Noisy they will be of course.

So out of the list, I vote the BFG AT, is your driving is mostly on road with moderate trail, and off road.

If it is all off road, I would try out the HD Terrain.

I live in PA so I'm definitely looking for something good in the snow. The last set of tires I had on a pickup were the Cooper AT3s and they were horrible in the snow. My driving will be 99% on road, but I will be building a house in the future so I definitely need something up to the task of making it through some mud as well.

There is always a balance and tradeoffs. I would recommend the BFGs for sure. Another one not on your list, would be the Michelin AT2.

I currently have the Rugged Trek on my 2017 3500. Put them on spring of 2022 I believe. Ballpark 50,000km? I really like them and will get them again. Have done a great balance between towing and unloaded and they run great all around. 3000km unloaded trip through the rockies and they were smooth and pretty quiet. Maybe 6000km towing our 6 horse this year and again, run quiet and smooth. Have not measured wear but seem good.

I am not a Duratrac fan boy anymore. Had them previous and were a great tire. Towed lots and towed heavy. They gave me a good run. In 2022 they upped their price by over 100$ a tire and priced themselves put of a purchase. I find the Rugged Trek smoother and quieter.

I have several hundred thousand km on Duratracs on a big span of F150s over 10 years. A great tire but the Cooper is better at a lower price point.

A few years back I put a few thousand km on the K02s. Seemed like a great tire but the truck got miled out before I could get a good opinion.

Add to your list;
Toyo CTs
Nitto EXOs
Yokohama GO 17s
The Duratrac RTs are new this year and have a tough 3 ply sidewall like the ones I added.
Also new this year are Toyo M655.
M55s are popular around here.

I have Toyos on my car and I'm less than impressed with them, I'll probably never buy another set of their tires. Never owned Nitto tires, but I guess they're owned by the same people as Toyo. Add to that everyone I see runs them and I'm definitely not interested in anything they have either.

I hear Yokohama is a great tire, I would definitely try their tires, but as of right now I can't really bring myself to like any style of tire they produce. Don't get me wrong there's more to tires than just how they look, but I'd prefer something with a different look that still performs well.

So after some more research and thoughts from everyone that posted here so far I think I'm down to these three:

Cooper Discovery Rugged Trek
Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT
BFGoodrich KO3

you are 33% correct :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I just took a work F150 for a spirited rip both on and off road. It's sporting the new Duratrac RT's. Other than sidewall, they look the same as the old style. They seemed a bit quieter on the smooth asphalt and perhaps less noise at speed. It was tough to hear anything above the sound of a garbage F150 though....

Edit, they seem about as loud as before.

We towed with our 2006 duramax. I had K02 265s on it. They weren't as quiet/smooth as the Michelin LTX M/S2 that were on it prior, but they were respectable. My axle weights were usually around 4500 front, 5400 rear.

I ended up finally deciding on the Cooper Rugged Treks. It will probably be a little while until I get them on the truck, but I'll let you know my thoughts on them. Thank you everyone for the input on this!!
