I have a 06 civic with the 1.8 sohc engine and 5 speed auto transmission. I am coming up on 5,000 miles and plan on dumping the original oil even though my oil life monitor says 50% remaining. I live in humid hot SW Florida and travel 70% of the time on the highway. I was inbetween using Ford Semi-synthetic 5w-20 or Castrol 5w-20 (both around $10 for 5 quart jug) which meets Ford's high specs too. Also tossing the idea of Walmart's Supertech full synthetic 5w30 or 10w30 since it is onlt $12.24 per 5 quart jug. Which do you recommend and why? BTW, I am using the Walmart SuperTech filter which claims to be very good.

What does your owner's manual state for acceptable grades?
in the US, 5w-20. I know in other markets different weights are suggested.
Ever thought about Mobil 1 0w-20? This oil would suit that motor. It is a very good 20w oil.
your plan sounds good if you stick to 5000 oci. My Civic went 8000 miles with 10% left on the monitor. The SuperTech filter appears well-made and has a good reputstion. However, I would suggest logging onto FLEETFILTER.com and ordering a bunch of NAPA Gold oil filters at $3.39 each and a couple of NAPA Gold cabin air filters at $9.75 each. I ordered about a 100,000 miles worth of filters and was impressed with their price and service. Right now I'm using the Motorcraft 5w-20 but I have some RedLine to use for the winter(for when I don't like changing my oil) nice little car-this is my first Honda-I didn't think I'd like it-but it handles real nice and has been trouble-free. 2006Civic Coupe EX
Sounds like a good plan to me...I'd also consider using Havoline or Chevron 5W-20 too. Personally I'd stick with the excellent-quality Honda OEM filters made by Filtech. Look for part #15400-PLM-A0. I bought a bunch of them for my sister's 2004 Honda Civic VP from this online Honda parts place:

Any GF4 SM rated conventional 5w20 would be fine all year long, if you don't mind spending the extra $$, use synthetic.
After seeing all the awesome used oil analysis of conventional 5w20 oils......I doubt I will ever buy Mobil 1 ever again. A Honda will run great with pretty much any brand of conventional oil.

Gee...I would think you'd want to do it the other way around...use the thicker, more heat tolerant RedLine in the summer.

I'd say use the Mototcraft at 5K intervals.
this is what Honda written under powertrain technical media info "Low friction, a key component to producing more power, is achieved through the application of Molybdenum Di-Sulfide (MoS2) piston coatings and cylinder sleeve plateau honing. Plateau honing lowers the friction level between the pistons and the cylinders by creating an ultra smooth surface. Plateau honing is a two stage machining process that uses two grinding processes instead of the more conventional single honing process. This also enhances the long-term wear characteristics of the engine. A low friction ion plated piston ring further reduces friction. In addition low viscosity oil (5W-20) is used to reduce friction."
