You should take a look at the photo ov VAD's engine. I forgot what oil he used, but he has the same engine as you and it looked like new at 75k.

What is the history of the Mazda/Ford Duratec I4? I drove a coworkers 2.3 Focus and thought it to be a pretty good motor.

The problem with PP is availability. Walmart seems to have 5w20 only occasionally. The same seems true for AA, Pep Boys and AZ.
Mobil 1, on the other hand, seems to be in stock whenever I'm there.

(I find this to be a problem with Walmart in particular. Last year Mobil 7500 was fully stocked--this year its nowhere to be found.)

Do piston squirters affect motor oil performance? I think Ford Duratec engines are easy on motor oil. Joe

I can see where oil temps can get very high in stop and go city driving, in ALL engines.

Don't worry so much about it, Shadd..

New 4-bangers are easy on the oil. On my new AccentGT I've run Motorcraft, Pennzoil, Dino and every form of Syn, and can't tell any difference whatsoever in feel, sound or performance or MPG even between 0W30, 5W20, 10W30. Hang with 5W20 SM GF4, and dino, blends, or syn, you'll be well served. At 5K oci, that Motorcraft 5W20 blended for the money (or maybe at any price) will more than do the trick. I go 7500 with syn, 5K dino (my car can go 7500 easy service). If your car has a maximum spec of 5K, don't violate it.

Don't ever, ever, trust the Stealership enough to go outside their specs. Other than that, enjoy!
