Good job.

Just curious as to how you noticed the oil needed to be replaced cause it was on jackstands?

maybe the oil change sticker...or his telepathic super mechanic powers. you figure it out, detective.

I see you used a 4967 which is probably spec for that car. A 3614 (3.4 V6 toyota engine) would probably fit too. Better yet a motorcraft FL-400s. It may be better not to experiment on someone else's car, but Ive used the FL-400S on my tundra and tercels and corollas with no problems. They usually have them at walmart for $3.50.

Thats easy. He is a BITOGer, so naturally when he saw an oil drain plug and filter, he had to change it.

he said he didn't notice the oil change sticker until after he changed the oil.

Good luck with this! Hope all goes well

Sadly, I think I know which one you are talking about.....

The 4967 is the "correct" filter, and a 3614 does fit as well. It's nearly the same thing, just a hair longer. Toyota actually uses two separate filters for the two applications as well, a YZZF2 is the shorter one, and the YZZF1 is the longer one (as I recall).

The picture shows a Fram "PRO-series" oil filter. Walmart uses those, not Jiffy Lube. All of the Walmart TLE locations I have been to use FRAM filters.

All of the Jiffy Lube cars that I've seen have a white colored oil filter.

So, something is not adding up. What did the oil change sticker say? What was the mileage printed on the sticker?

hear hear! Dats what I'm sayin! LOL All my cars love FL-400S. I should add my other two vehicles, 1989 mustang 5.0 and a 1989 merkur xr4ti. They can use FL-400s too, but I step them up to FL-1A.

This thread is discouraging: Several posters defend JL, a company with a well documented track record of ripping people off, yet positively leap at the chance to wag the finger of self-righteousness and condemn the GF as a blatant liar. Yes, there are inconsistencies and a general air of 'weirdness' to this sad, sludgy story. Something is amiss. But to rush to such a cynical conclusion seems less than fair.

Ha ha. This is always the same never know if it is a true story or not. However, at least he did post pictures that matched his original story.

Often at my wallmart they are out of supertech filters in the size I want. I never pic frams first but wont necessarily go to another store just to avoid Fram.

GF could be lying, but there was an oil change sticker there.

The Toyota took 4967, and if what you say is right then the 3614 is the same as that on my Stratus, which means I can use the MOPAR 090 Oversized filter for her car next time.
It has roughly 70% more filtration capacity, since its made for a V6.

Not sure why you guys are all so convinced that what I am saying is false.

All I am doing is relaying my experience here so I can either get some feedback for my unusual sludge problem and perhaps to raise awareness, for those that are not careful, to be more careful when they take their cars to the oil change places.

Those include, JL, WallyMart, etc etc... even your local garage, keep an eye on what goes in your car and what comes out.

I am a car guy and every car has a special place in my heart even the very ugly ones.
Not a fan of Toyota, but I am not a hater either. Seeing an engine mistreated in such a bad way is like leaving a child on the street in the winter without food.
Hurts me in a special place... so as a BITOG Guy, I need to jump in and save it... no kiddin!

If the car was say 170K, I probably wouldnt think or worry much about the sludge but at 70K, it means either mistreated or bad engine design.

Sounded like it was a bad service, and considering how oblivious my friend is to anything car related, she often looks at you nods, and acts like she knows what you are talking about...

She got taken for a dummy probably, I dont care about the filter, I was mad that it wasn't changed. As far as oil goes, not sure why the 5K thing was suggested by them, maybe she paid for premium oil change and thus the extended OCI. Whatever it was, filter wasn't changed, maybe the oil was but why so much sludge.

Before JiffyLube, the car was serviced at the Toyota Dealer, somewhere here in MI, probably Lafontaine one on Telegraph rd.

Next thing on my list is to get the car in my garage and tear up the valve cover for a closer inspection.

I don't know, its some sort of hobby here it seems. Someone comes alongs with an interesting/unusual post and the skeptics flock to it start choppin'.

Don't take it personally.

Maybe its because it sounds like someone is not telling the facts here. The girlfriend's friend prob did not tell him the facts on her maintenance.

You really think folks that all the Jiffy Lubes don't change oil? REALLY? You really think that they wipe the filter and place a new sticker in the windshield?

Read back and see not too many things match up.

But I guess we should just become a [censored] fest for items that we don't like and who cares about being a RESOURCE for FACTUAL data like BITOG HAS been for YEARS.

We should just spew brand x is best, if you use brand y its garbage no matter the facts.

If you have your oil changed here you are being ripped off but if you get it done there all is okay.

Everyone NEEDS to THINK that for every member who may read this there are MANY who come here to find out facts. They come here and read that Fram is junk (even though MILLIONS and MILLIONS of engines go down the road just fine year after year) Conventional oil is sub par and if you really "care" for your engine the only thing that will do is brand M of oil...

Yea, sounds like a place for facts.

Keeping this board FACTUAL is a "hobby" for some of us.

Spewing wife's tales is a hobby for others.

The way I see fram is perfectly fine filter if you go no more then 3K miles, you get what you pay for.
Same with conventional oil.

If you care for your car like me, and you squeeze every penny out of your oil then you will think otherwise... Fram at 7500-10,000 is not enouhg in my book... however some of the other filters that have been proven to be better work exactly for that reason.

Another way to look at it, if I drive a beater, then conventional oil and fram is all I am gonna put in it... if I drive a nicer car that I care and love, then Mobil 1 and Wix is my choice.

Thank you for proving my point!

Not a FACT in your statement.

Good job!
