Yes, it's very normal for a honda k20 engine to burn at least .5 quarts every 4k miles. Rings aren't all built identical, driving styles differ, and [censored] I could have some sort of bad break-in material stuck on a ring-pack for the past 90k miles.

Regardless, I get 29-30mpg with very aggressive driving and my consumption has always stayed almost identical (actually, up to 26k miles, it was 1 quart every ~2k miles). I fly by emissions testing.

So, ya know, I just don't care :)

Regarding UOA wear metals: I stand by my statement. With the exception of very particular circumstances, wear metals on UOAs are almost useless. Even in trending.

For example: My Subaru UOA (see my other post) had 2 UOAs with copper spikes of ~30ppm over 3000-3500 mile OCIs. Then it dropped to 5ppm in the most recent. No real reason why. Do I have a batch of bad main bearings (which were happening around my production time and were spitting off CHUNKS of copper into the oil pan on many Subarus), or was my oil cooler oxidizing?

Who knows!?!

And that's just one example of how, with some specific exceptions, UOA wear metals don't really do much for ya :)

Joe

(Oh, and P.s., they only see dissolved metals in a very narrow size range....let's hope you aren't wearing a metal part in a way that it's 5 microns or bigger!)
