Hey, guys. I have an '05 Outback Sport,t eh Impreze Outback, with a 5 speed. The car only has 12k miles on it, so all the gear/rear end lubs are still original. I've started to notice that it's getting hard to shift into gears, particularly 1st gear. More often that not, 1st gear is very hard when I come to a stop. Sometimes, all I have to o is leave it in neutral, pop the clutch, so the clutch can spin the trans a little bit, and then it goes right into gear.

Now, am I having a fluid problem, or is this a transmission problem? And, if this is a fluid problem, does anybody reccoment a good transmission fluid for this car? I was considering redline, as they specifically show they they have a good transmission fluid for a WRX, but not my car, as they are different transmissions. Any advice? Thanks.

Sure, Specialty Formulations MTL-R in the gearbox. Smoothed mine right out. First gear was previously pretty tough sometimes, especially if I was already rolling slowly. Actually, the shifting improved for about a week after putting this in. I have a Saab 9-2X...which is an Impreza wagon in different clothes.

What weight gear oils can you use?

RoyalPurple Maxgear 75w90 has served my well in several transmissions. Redline 75w90NS is another choice.

If possible, bleed the clutch and adjust any clutch rod/linkage/cables.

Since it is under warranty, I'd first drop it off at the dealer for a look.
If they find nothing wrong, grab one of the synthetic gear oils.

It's not a clutch problem, it's the trans. I think it's just cause it's getting cold out, adn it's a non-synthetic 90 weight.
