05 Ram HD gear rattle

I got a 2005 Dodge Ram HD with the G-56 6 Speed; I noticed today a possible new noise that has developed.
I noticed it when I was going through the drive through, I though throw out bearing but after looking into it a bit more I don’t think it is. When sitting in neutral nothing no noise except the glory of the Cummins running. When I push the clutch in just a tad I get a rattle or a gear rubbing noise. If I push the clutch to the floor the noise goes away, the other way I got it to go away is with the clutch pushed in a little and the noise present if I pull or push the shifter to the point when if I were to push any harder it would grind its way in the noise goes away.
Any idea’s what it could be?

Sounds like clutch chatter or a possible throwout bearing. I don't think it's the transmission. The 6 speed in the HD's are pretty stout.

Miles on unit? 117K? Factory clutch?

Any rough engagement when pulling away from a stop? Almost sounds like a rattle from a dual mass flywheel or clutch disc?

Dosen't sound like trans. It would make noise clutch out and gears,bearings turning. Dual mass flywheel a known weak spot with the G56 trans/clutch. Without dual mass trans noise is loud.

about 120k truck, not sure if clutch has been changed as I got the truck a few months ago. I had it inspected before I bought it and they said it still had the dual mass and it had to go as it was a weak point but as I just bought the truck I planned on holding out for a bit.

No rough anything drives great, just a worrysome owner.

It might simply be that partially pushed, the clutch plates are just touching enough to turn the trans with no load, and the throwout bearing could be involved. I would drive it and keep an eye (ear?) out for worsening condition, avoiding the partially pushed clutch situation.

Does it do it when you go from fully engaged to fully disengaged, like when you are shifting?

Throw out bearing related. Not transmission related.
