05 GMC Sierra OCI advice?

05 GMC Sierra xcab 1500 5.3L auto (63K) used for towing a 3000lb 5th wheel around the southwest. Driven pretty gently, 65 max, never push hills very hard. Currently using Mobil 1 5w30/NAPA Gold on 5K OCI. 10K/yr driven. Main concern is protecting the engine, not getting the last mile out of the oil. Good, bad, ugly?

I have trusted the OLM on a 2000 Silverado 5.3 w/ 39k miles, 2005 Tahoe w/ 112k miles, and a 2005 Suburban with 88k miles.

I use syntheitcs and either Wix or AC Delco filters.

5k OCI with Napa Gold and M1 is overkill. If I was bent on strict 5k OCI's I would save money and use Valvolien Maxlife SynBlend 5-30.

M1 always seemed to make the cold start knock worse in my 5.3's.

My advise is to trust the OLM and continue with your M1/NAPA combo.

What OLM mileage do you see on those 3 fine trucks?

It really depends. Time-wise the 2000 Silverado OLM may take over a year sometimes, but I will change it out early if it's going to pass 12 months.

The highest I have seen on the Tahoe was 7-8k maybe. I really dont know.

Google or search here for the OLM on the Full Size trucks and SUV's. GM probably has the best OLM alogorhythm of the automakers.

The OLM on GM's is an excellent indicator. I've had them go off at 4400 miles and almost 14k miles!

Either way we follow it on all our fleet trucks and they last up to 400k miles! So far.

What you are doing is perfectly fine and is a good OCI. You certainly can extended out further with the OLM( GM's is excellent as others have said )but nothing wrong with staying on your 5K plan either especially towing in the heat of the southwest.

Thanks for the thoughts. Maybe I'll do an OC and see where the OLM takes me. If I can. Just happy nobody thinks I'm pushing it out here in the dry heat.

No worries there. With your older engine design your OLM will be right on you do not have to worry about the problem GM direct injection engines are having will fuel dillution. I would not take too much on ambient when figuring my OCI or what grade of oil I would use. It is 2011 the last time a checked.
