'05 Corvette Recommendations Please

Here's the facts: 2005 C6 Corvette, LS2, 17K miles, M6 transmission. No racing, but I do like to "get on it" occasionally.

I'm currently running Mobil 1 5W30 with Mobil 1 oil filters and 3K oil changes. I'd like to switch to Redline or Amsoil 5W30 with 10K OCI and 5K filter changes.

I'm looking for filter recommendations...K&N, Mobil 1, or Wix (Napa Gold). I understand the price difference but am curious what folks think is the best combination for my engine?

Personally, I like Wix filters. Quality seems to be top notch and if you order from http://fleetfilter.com/ they are relatively cheap vs. what you'd pay at Napa or other places.

I would use the Amsoil Eao32 oil filter. The best filter out there regardless of price. You would not have to change filters till you changed oil, its good up to 25,000 miles.

Wix would be my 2nd choice, then AC Delco if pinching pennies but if money was of no concern, the EaO32 hands down.

btw-EaO32 is same filter that fits my 2004 GMC.

I also have a 2005 Corvette, which I run pretty hard. Personally, I run the GC green and usually the UPF44 AC filter. This oil has been shown to work well in the LS engines and provides a little stoutness if you ever track your car. You can get the filters by the 6pk for around $8 ea.

If I were you, I'd see if there is room for a slightly longer (3/4 to 1") filter. If so, then here is the order that I'd go with:

1) Amsoil EaO64
2) PureOne PL25288
3) Wix 51522 (Napa 1522)
4) Mobil 1 (I don't know the product #)
5) Any other longer filter.

If you want to look up other brands of an oversized filter for your car, look for a filter that fits a 2006 Chevy Impala V6 (the V8 uses the smaller filter like yours).

These filters have the same specs as your stocker but more volume. They also cost the same as the smaller size. Why not get more filtration for your money?

I believe the only Ultra Gold AC filter still being made is the UPF44 and I think that is what your car uses. I looked, but could not find, some test I have somewhere from about three years ago that indicated the Ultra Gold being excellent rating higher than Mobil 1, K&N, PureOne, etc. Trapped incredibly small particles, below 10 microns, but still flowed very well, better than the rest in the test. Probably could find them at one of the High Performance oriented Chevy dealerships by doing a search. The UPF is several steps above PFs. The new Amsoil filters look good and the words sound good on the website but I have not seen any real test results. The graph on their website compares it to conventional oils filters which would mean Fram not include Mobil 1s, K&Ns, Ultra Golds, and others of that class.

Unfortunately, not on that car. The UPF44 already hangs a bit below the already too low oil pan.

I had a 2000 C5 and used RedLine 5w30 and the AC/Delco Ultra Gold with good results. At that time very good things were said about that AC filter in the "Corvette community".

I am getting good results with the K&N HP1007 on my C5, and I'm sure it would work very well on the C6 too. When I get a C6 I'll run that filter also, unless I end up getting a 2007 or newer.

For 2007 they now have changed the engine so that it no longer includes the bypass valve in the block. So that means there is a new oil filter for these engines which has the bypass valve in it. Previous filters for the Corvette did not need the bypass valve. AFAIK the only filter you can get right now for the 2007 would be the AC Delco PF48. It would be very dangerous to try to run any other filter on these engines since then you might be running without a bypass valve! I'm not sure, but hopefully they've changed the size of the thread so that the filters which fit the C5 and 2005-2006 C6 will not go on the 2007. Otherwise a lot of quicky lube places could be paying for new Corvette engines!

Yep they're M20x1.5 threads. LS7s already went to the PF48 with internal bypass.
