I have recently acquired a 2005 427 Corvette Devil Ray with supercharger and 700 RWHP. It eats more than a quart of oil every 1000 miles of Mobil 1 10w30 and just playing around town runs temps 230-260. I use it as my daily driver but also drive it pretty hard around town, and as well will drive it during a Washington DC winter (freezes, but it's not Minnesota).

I'd love to find a thicker oil that my car doesn't eat as much of, but that also works for daily driving and winter. Any recommendations?

Redline 5w40 or 0w40 would work and is a very stout formula. Resists shearing and viscosity loss quite well.

Others like Renewable Lubricants and Motul 300V are ultra-high end oils designed for extreme applications. I actually like Royal Purple XPR as well, but very little data is released about its formulation.
 
You might try Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40 which is an SL oil. However have you considered that there may be a mechanical problem with the engine? Just a thought.
 
I can fix it for you but you have to loan it to me for a week and not wonder why it has 2,000 more miles on it. I will be in DC starting tomorrow for a whole week. Just PM me.
 
Look to OEM's with engines producing power in this range. The two oils I'd be looking at are Mobil 1 5W50 (SLR and LF-A factory fills) and since your power is even higher than those two cars, Castrol 10W-60 (BMW's M factory fill). These are the two best high viscosity oils in the world. I'm sure Red Line has something appropriate as well and they'll also be able to advise you well on what viscosity to use.

EDIT: RedLine 5W50 with 5.9cst HTHS visc should work very well while still giving you good cold weather pumpability. It's also got a high viscosity index (185), and the noack volatility of 6% should really curtail that consumption. I'm not usually a fan of boutique oils but this really looks like a good fit.

Is that 230-260F oil or coolant temperature? Either is bad for just driving around town, but the underlying problems would be different. Is the engine maintaining oil pressure in the range of 40-60psi?
 
Full synthetic 10w40's will help. RoyalPurple, Castrol, Mobil 1.. usually are available locally, and you can even use the 10w40(rice-rocket) or 20w50(knuckle-dragger) full synthetic motorcycle oils.

Oil cooling needs looking into. I'd expect and hope that someone building 700hp SBC's addressed it already.

Any 0w40 or 5w40 would be better than 10w30. and a good flowing winter weather choice.

Syntec 5w50, Synpower 20w50, Mobil 1 15w50 are worth considering for summers if you can't control oil temps.

Mobil 1 has a 0w50 race oil. JoeGibbs, Redline, Torco, VR1, and RoyalPurple also have a selection of synthetic race oils.

Couple of things here. At 700 RWHP I assume we are talking only 7 lbs of boost +/-. Maggie or ProCharger?
Having built multiple Vettes over the past 30 years and having a stable full of bowtie muscle I can tell you thicker weight oil would not address your issue.Fix the root cause. Capacity and cooling.
Are you running a stock bottom end? If you are stick with the 30 weight and get the flow benefits.
I would also mount dual remote filters (Perma-Cool)
and B&M stacked oil cooler. This will increase your sump capacity by almost two quarts and allow you significant cooling capability.
You have plenty of room in front of the radiator even with a air-air cooler for your blower,(if you have one). Mount a oil thermostat (160f opening) between the remote filters and the oil cooler.
My 600+ N/A RWHP Chevy sitting in the garage never sees oil temps above 200f in the Texas summer heat running hard with this setup running Shaeffers 10-30 Series 7000.
It works. I did not read all the other responses so if I am redundant please forgive me.
 
Is this an 11.8:1 CR MTI stroker with a 7psi Maggie on top, or were lower compression pistons installed at the time of the blower installation (and much more safe/usable boost available)??

Can you contact MTI Racing and ask them what they suggest (besides the already excellent suggestions of high capacity oil coolers/remote dual filters)?

Well, when you play you PAY ! But I agree that is steep. I considered Redline oil once, until I saw the price !
 
Burning a quart every thousand miles and assuming your not driving a corvette in the snow theres really only one choice. Readily available 5qt jug of Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40 at Walmart.
 
Thanks for the info, there was too much stuff crammed in the front preventing airflow, East Coast Superchanging has sorted it out, and I believe has included at least one oil cooler and remote oil filter.
