Four quarts PP 5w20, 2 quarts PP 5w30. No make-up oil added.
"you've run this oil more than 10,000 miles, and wear is as low as it has ever been....The oil could actually have been run longer. Impressive!"

10,171 on oil, 49,533 on engine. Motorcraft FL820S filter.

PP does well at double the suggested mileage for this engine in my Gramp Marquis. 95% highway cruising at 72-78 mph. A couple of 100mph short runs...you have to let these cars "stretch their legs" every once in a while B-)

I went to 5 quarts 5w20, one quart 5w30. I just have some extra 5w30 I want to use up, because this car is my highway cruiser, and therefore my Subaru won't be running through so much oil (Subaru recommendation is 5w30).

Well, if I were going to go 15,000 or 20,000, I'd get a TBN. I think this engine, driven in the conditions I drive it, might be one of the situations where you could put AmSoil in it and go 25,000 miles...with no special microfiltration or anything like that.

Nice results...

The Grand Marquis/Crown Vic are fantastic cars!!! They're one of the best used car values out there and they're awesome for freeway travel. The 4.6L V8 is amazing and I love the BOF construction. I sincerely wish Ford would tweak this platform and design a Vic suitable for the next 30 years... sigh:(

Last year, I did a UOA on my '99 Vic w/Synpower, it was 10ppm Fe after 5,000 miles. I had a 120k on that run. Now I'm using dino via 5k changes, we'll see how that goes.

*Tip for these cars: Drive with the OD off around town. Mechanic told me that it saves wear & tear on the transmission's torque converter. My dad did that with his '92 Grand Marquis, original tranny lasted over 200k:)

I agree...........I have a 05 CV with the 4.6. Car has 76K on it and this thing has been run very hard (10-15 hours ideling at times, 15-20 WOTs per day). Still doesnt use any oil and runs great.

This was one of Ford's better ideas ...naturally, they discontinue the CV except for police sales. Now you have to buy the Marquis if you want it. Not a loss, per se~, but you'll pay a bit more. I hope to pick up one used someday.

Great UOA. Do yourself a favor and do at least one Dyson analysis to get into some broader/deeper indicators with his input. Not much to improve on ..but you'll, perhaps, learn how close you are to the edge of the envelope. TAN/OX/Nitr numbers would be nice to see how much further you could have gone.

You guys keep posting these PP UOAs and pretty soon we won't be able to find PP under $6/qrt. No more PP UOAs.

Nice theory...I've already started doing it! Thanks for the tip.

I might run PP 15,000 miles and send a sample to Mr. Dyson. It might be very interesting.

Ford got this car "right" for what it is. I would never buy one new...they are perhaps the worst for holding value...probably at least in part because they are 7000.00 over-priced at 30,000+ MSRP with Leather/Heated Seats/Side Air Impact Bags/Full size spare...that was in '04. After '04, I think they started "de-contenting" them to keep the costs down. But, for just over 10,000.00, you can get a nearly-new used one that will put out UOA's like this while getting about 26 mpg at low-70 mph speeds...the engine will probably outlive the car, they are relatively easy and simple to work on, comfortable as a cruiser, and relatively safe.

isnt penz full syn 19.99 for 5 quarts and a tough guard oil filter at autozone..i just bought some at that price 3 weeks ago

I'm afraid the 0.99 per quart after rebate specials are no more. I'm sure glad I bought several cases. Word is going to get out about this oil, and it won't need to be slashed so low to move off the shelves.
