Think I should try for 15,000? Probably should check it at 12,500 first...

Not bad for a vehicle with a maximum Manufacturer's OCI recommendation of 5000 miles.

10,000 miles is getting your monies worth. Then you won't have to do uoa's on a regular basis.

I don't have a "daily commute". I cover 9 states worth of accounts, and go when and where I need to go. I've put 22500 on this car since Oct. 16, 2007

Yep, good idea. This car is about comfort, safety, reliability and money....buy a three-year old car with low miles, pile miles on until it becomes apparent it's time to get a different one. Rinse, repeat. I'm hoping to get more than 200,000 miles out of her. At 26 mpg cruising at just over 70 mph, I'm spending a few dollars more per day compared to some, but, it's hard to beat a 4000lb. RWD car for cruising down the highway...and since I only paid 12,000 for this 04 with heated Leather seats with side-airbags, I'm not having to give up comfort/safety nor much depreciation. I can probably use my 0.99c/quart PP every 15,000 and squeeze more mileage out of each OCI and make it to 200,000 with zero lubrication issues, but, my costs will go up when I run out of my 0.99 c PP stash!

With basically nothing but highway driving, I'd say you ca go 15k miles comfortably....makes your stash last longer!

Titan, I see you bought your Grand Marquis for the same reasons I bought one. There isn't a better-equipped, safer, more comfortable car out there for the money. 26 mpg is the icing on the cake!

That is an amazing UOA! Guess the PP's "Unique Adaptive Molecules" actually work, eh?

I agree. I hate the advertisement, though...even if there is some truth to it!

You're gonna make me start missing my Crown Vic even more than I already do. That 4.6 is good on oil. Mine (111K when I sold it 6 months ago) was burning about a quart over a 4K mile OCI, but the oil always kept a nice color to it.

These cars are the PERFECT highway cruisers. Gas mileage, comfort, trunk space, etc. I don't know why they don't hold their value better than they do, but I echo that "buy used" sentiment.

They truly don't hold value well. I forget where I read that they are priced about 7000.00 too high. IF you drop your purchase price about 7000.00 off of sticker, they still don't hold value well that first couple of years. But, man, are they comfortable, relatively safe cruisers, and not very thirsty if you stay at the speed limit. I've reached 29 mpg several times (although that's not enough to be accurate) when I kept it around 63 mph (secondary roads). Some of the older ones had valve guide seals that were not good, and the older all-plastic intakes had a tendency to crack. But, overall, it's hard to find a much better value if you buy used.

After '04, I think they started "de-contenting" them to keep the costs down. But, for just over 10,000.00, you can get a nearly-new used one that will put out UOA's like this while getting about 26 mpg at low-70 mph speeds...the engine will probably outlive the car, they are relatively easy and simple to work on, comfortable as a cruiser, and relatively safe.

I agree! I just bought an 04 Grand Marquis LS with about 35K on it for under 10K. It is Ford Certified and has the remainder of 6 years 70K warranty.
I've only had it for a month, but so far I love it. It is getting better gas mileage than my Trailblazer with the I6 or my Ford van with a V6. Love the power and feel of a V8! Doesn't handle too bad for a "big" car!

Great price on that car, assuming it wasn't wrecked/isn't damaged! I thought I had about as good a price as possible when I bought mine for 12K with 29,000 miles last fall. It already has over 55,000 trouble free, comfortable, relatively economical miles. Slowed to 65 mph on my last three tankfuls, and it now achieving nearly 30 mpg!

Driving long distance you can't beat a bigger car for comfort. Small cars might get good gas mileage and be comfy for a little while, but you just get tired of driving it so much sooner than a big car. 30mpg is awesome for a full size tank/sedan!!
