Sorry but I almost got KILLED by one of those texters (or whatever they were doing). I was doing about 60 and they were doing about 60, and the U.S. 101 highway curved, but the other driver just went straight ahead (into the other lane).
They "woke up" and swerved mere inches from me. I doubt I would have survived that 120 mile/hour collision. Stupid people should put down the phone (or map, or whatever they were doing).
Anyway I'm glad to hear your son survived his near-collision from his empty car (and the dumb lady).

There was probably a reason. Civics are generally great cars.

I'd look into Toyotas, Nissan, GEO (RE-branded Toyota corollas), Pontiac Vibe (rebranded toyota matrix), suzuki, honda and recent hyundai.
You may be lucky and find a 2012 hyundai accent (base, barebone model) for like $8 grand.

I agree, all are good choices...I picked up a decent '04 Corolla last fall for under $6K and it serves me well....still gets 38 MPG highway, and about 30/31 city...and they run forever!

That's more the exception than the rule...I believe you'll find when looking at a larger sample the Civic (of all years) is quite reliable...

That's more the exception than the rule...I believe you'll find when looking at a larger sample the Civic (of all years) is quite reliable...

I had to replace the transmission on my Mitsubishi at 130,000. The pump started leaking & I couldn't find anyone willing to fix it for less than $3000. (So I didn't bother.) POINT: Sometimes mechanical items just break ahead-of-schedule.
