There are no BEST tranny gear oils.

Redline/Neo/Amsoil.......make good gear oils.

Since you said GL5 also, Mobil1 and others make 75w90 weights that are GL5.

I like Redline MT90.
I've also used Mobil1 75w90.

Its up to you to try one and see if you like it or not.

Just put Mobil 1 75W-90 GL-4/5 in my Miata transmission. You would not believe the difference it makes. It took me over a year to finally get around to dumping those bottles into my 5-speed, DUH. ALL the notchy feelings in the box are gone, both cold and warm.

Twas a pain in the *** to get to, but only 1 on a scale of 1 to 5 difficulty range (5 being the most difficult). The hardest part was the lift to get to the exact center of the car.

Hows the M1 Synthetic 75W-90 holding up? I too have a Miata ('03) 5 speed w/ open differential, planned on at 5K dumping the factory fill Rear/tranny and crankcase and adding M1 fluids and buttoning up for a couple + years (crankcase changes at 5K miles w/either OW/5W or 10W-30 M1 and Pureone filter)....tranny is a bit "notchy and stiff" when cold, especially going into 2'nd gear, ...though I often just use gears 1-3-5 when tamp gauge has come off "cold" and shift at 2500-3K rpms under light load, save the clutch and get into od a bit quicker...pls post..Jeff

I've tried a number of different 75w-90 GL4/5 fluids in my tranny including pennzoil synthetic (which was the worst shifting fluid I've seen!), and Redline MT-90, which made it shift faster in cold weather, but grinded a bit more. The best shifting fluid overall I've tried is Castrol Hypoy C 75/90 GL5 non synthetic.

That's interesting, because I put GM Synchromesh (Pennzoil in a different bottle and over twice the price) in my g/f's Mitsu Spyder and the tranny is like silk...
