I need to change the oil soon on our '03 Corolla that has just over 70k. For approx. the last 20k it's been running Mobil 1 5w30. I'm currently just over 9k on my current OCI

(hence my push to change the oil soon. I plan on having an UOA performed on this current fill to see how things are doing.

After signing up to the forum and reading about some products and lubricants, I'm not sure which product to choose. I am trying to decide between AMSOil and Mobil 1. AMSOil has a 5w30 synthetic and an XL blend. For Mobil 1 I would be opting for their Extended Performance blend.

For the filter I'm currently using a Fram Extended Guard :-(, but after reading the threads and realizing my brainwashing via marketing that a better choice would be a Mobil 1 filter OR Purolator Pure One OR an AMSOil filter.

The car is driven mostly hwy, probably 80% and my goal is to select a lubricant along with a filtration element that will maximize my OCI and maintain adequate performance...

I'm thinking of going AMSOil as I currently use there 15w40 diesel oil for my MB diesel. I would then sign up to be a local distributor or whatever their program is called to supply oil for the Corolla and a Taurus that I drive daily.... 3 cars in my household. I would like to secure as many products from a single source, for convenience if possible.

Help!!!

:-)

I run Amsoil ASL 5w30 in my 08 corolla, and it's holding up well at 12k miles & 3 OEM filter changes. I'll be changing it soon with the same oil & EAO09 Amsoil filter. The visual condition of this oil is very good and just carmel in color. Not black at all, and this car is started 4-7 times daily for short trips.

The Amsoil XL blend was made to compete with Mobil 1 and is a group III synthetic, and the ASL is a group IIII. Dont know much about the Mobil 1 E.P. oil though. The XL has turned in some great UOA reports on this site, but so has the Mobil 1.

Either one you choose though, i suggest you dump the Fram filters and go with Mobil 1 or the Amsoil EAO.

Just placed an order for the Amsoil 5w30XL along with their oil filter. I'll report back with an update on the used oil analysis and I'd like to cut open the Fram Extended Guard filter that's on there now...

If your goal is to maximize OCI (without any consideration of cost) then I would go with Amsoil with an Amsoil filter. Do a used oil analysis at maybe 10k to see how the oil is holding up. Then do another at 15k for the same reason.

With mostly highway driving you should be able to get 15k fairly easily with Amsoil.

If you want to spend top dollar, get the Mobil 1.
If it's good enough for the space shuttle,it should do well in a corolla.
I have been using Super Tech for about 10 years with good results.
Runs me about $15 for 5 qts at Walmart.
I don't believe in marketing lies.:)
