Anyone else ever notice a car with california emissions gets lower gas mileage?

If that's the case, wouldn't CA add more CO2 to the atmosphere than other states, due to the extra fuel consumed per mile driven?

I agree. In 82 I drove a company car our gas mileage was tracked. My coworker with same car always got less. mpg. He said he tried to get better but never got as could. He found out his had california emissions mine did not. Since I found out car I recently purchased has california emissions I wondered if this was still true in 2003?

I bought car in mo. But it has california emissions. It is getting less mpg than either of my past Buicks. As I stated I drove 82 Ford identical car except it had california emissions always got less mpg I'm asking if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I'm just surprised that this car gets lower mpg since it is newer lighter has less horsepower.

you have a regal gs, is that turbo, i have a 2005 century, made in canada, no ca emissions afaik, gas mileage is fine but nothing special

i am confused are you asking about the car in your signature so 03 century, mine is 05, very similar cars difference is ca emissions. btw i don't accurately check mileage but its good on highway

Don't be fooled by 50 state Federal emissions because California goes beyond that.

FACT! There are other states that follow California emissions~copy & paste:
Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, as well as the District of Columbia.

It use to be more common to find vehicles with either Fed or Cal emissions if you lived in states that didn't follow Cal emissions.
It made it a pain for dealers when they wanted to trade. A PA dealer cant do a dealer swap from an Ohio dealer if the VW in Ohio doesn't have
California emissions as an example.
You get a better warranty on some emissions related components in California vs other states.

Supposedly, the auto makers can sell Cal emissions vehicles in states that follow Federal emissions and sell the credits
to allow an oil refinery to pollute a little more as an example.

Hidden HP:
I use to own a 2013 VW GTI.
VW made both Fed and Cal emissions GTI's and I test driven identical GTI's except one was black and had the CBFA California engine code
and a red one with a CCTA Federal engine code. I bought the red one.
BIG difference in HP/torque.

I'm guessing VW made sure to give the auto press the CCTA engine code.

i am confused are you asking about the car in your signature
I don't know how to change signature. I'm using a phone. I sold Regal .I bought century 03. Century is lighter and has less horsepower, but uses more gas.

Thank you. My regal got 30 mpg on highway. This century is not. The century is lighter with less horsepower.
