Picked up an 02 sunfire that didn't run fairly cheap, finally got it running, but i can't get the power windows to work. I replaced the switch (which controls all four windows) and i checked the connection to the two front motors. My test light comes on when i push the up and down buttons, but my windows don't budge. Is it possible that both window motors are bad? is there a way to bypass the controls and hotwire the window to check?

Remove the door panels and use a voltmeter to see if you have power right at the window regulator motors when the switch is operated. If voltage is present, try smacking the motor with a hammer, but don't hit it too hard. If the window moves after that, replace the motor/regulator assembly. It is odd that all 4 windows would go out at the same time. There may be a module of some sort between the switch and the motors. The parts guys at a Pontiac dealer may be able to show you a diagram of what is in the circuit. They might even be able to give an idea of what to look for. A Haynes or Chilton manual might have a testing procedure as well.

Good luck with it.
