EQUIPMENT MODEL: 5.3L 327 CI V-8
OIL USE INTERVAL: 5,100 Miles
Miles on truck: 11,500
OIL TYPE & GRADE: Mobil 1 10w30
MAKE-UP OIL ADDED: 1 qt
Oil used from 1/15/03 - 7/15/03
Previous oil was Castrol 10w30

(From Blackstone) JASON: Your new 5.3L Vortec engine is still undergoing wear-in at 11,510 miles so the above average wear metals (see universal averages) are not unusually high, considering the circumstance. We would like to see lead lower since it comes from bearing inserts, but chances are, it will read lower in the next sample. Silicon and all the other metals should drop a little too. This appears to be 10w30 oil and we have no problem with the oil use interval, though it may be a little long considering wear-in. No gas or anti-freeze found. Use 4,000 miles next sample.

This oil did better than I thought it would because I run this thing very hard most of the time and drive mostly short trips to and from work. Something else I thought was strange is it used a full quart by 2,500 miles of this interval but from 2,500 to 5,100 it didn't use a drop.

I know your engine is still young, but for reasons I don’t understand, sometimes when switching to a synthetic (if this is your case) from conventional oil, oil consumption will temporarily go up. I noticed this with my wife’s Volvo. The first oil change I did with synthetic, she burned about ½ quart in 5000 miles. The second oil change here car burned nothing??? I’ve read about this phenomenon before, but don’t remember the details.

Not the greatest report-on paper. But I would be O.K. with it. As usual the Mobil held grade but don't forget these numbers are better than they appear due to the extra oil makeup. Well also use the excuse that Redline proponents use "Its just cleaning up the old inferior oil"

I'm sure things will get better. And the good news is that you don't really have any obvious serious issues like coolant leak.

Well it's not the greatest report, but it's not the worst either. See what happens on the next sample.
