Of all oil, I will still say Castrol 0W30 is best oil for Euro cars, BUT it's price does not justify benefits considering price of Mobil 1 0W40 and Castrol 0W40.
I did UOA of Mobil 1 0W40. It was simply stellar! You cannot go wrong with that oil.
I used once Castrol 0W40, and I think I will go back to that one. It has better start in cold, and engine revs happier then with any other oil I used except 0W30.
Now you said your Audi used 1/2qt in 750 miles. How many miles you have? You might need heavier oil due to mileage. Maybe you should try T6 then.

I've advise you to stick with Mobil 1 or if it goes on rollback again, the Castrol 0W-40. It's rumored that the Castrol is even a good amount of PAO based, unlike their 0W-30.
Are you sure the oil isn't leaking out? The VAG 30V has always had a hard time keeping its fluids from ending up on the exhaust manifolds or the ground.
Only 56k miles? I'd love to see some pictures of your car if you have any. 6-speed or autotragic?

I believe that the percentage of PAO is less in the 0W-30, not that there is none in it. I should have worded that better in my first post.

I currently have 63k on my car. It is auto unfortunately but that didn't stop me from buying it. As far as I'm aware the previous owner ran Mobil 1. I don't know for a fact but there was a Mobil 1 filter on it so I don't see why hey wouldn't have ran the oil too. Castrol 0w-30, and 0w-40 as well as Mobil 1 are all the same price locally for me. Rotella is 18.99 locally as Mobil and castrol are 28. Since I need about 6 and a half quarts of oil it adds up quick. I was surprised to see that it went down half a quart already in less than 1,000 miles. I don't drive it hard, I let it warm up and cool down properly.

In the States, some Carquest Autoparts stores carry Kendall syn, I think I've seen that weight at the Orchard Park location outside Buffalo...
Kendall GT1 Full Synthetic 5W40 Eurospec. I've used it for 11 years in my Passat with the 1.8T that has been APR chipped for the last 6 years. No issues and meets all VW/Audi specs.

I consider the Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 equivalent to oils such as Castrol 0w-40 and Mobil 1 0w-40, since they all meet the same stringent euro mfg specs.
The Pennzoil Ultra 0w-40 is a different animal altogether. It's meant for the SRT engines and does not meet any euro mfg specs. Much higher Noack, too, which is why it couldn't meet these euro specs.
