'02 Accord V6 Mileage [24-25]

Most people drive Crown Vic with very light acceleration as this is a vehicle for mature driver. Most people drive V6 Accord does give it some gas. 3.0 making nice 200 hp is quite efficient for 2002 model. Also, 2002 is way before we had the fuel crisis so "made for American" cars such as Accord and Camry didn't got lazy in the fuel efficient department.

I drive my Accord like grandma around town so my mileage is pretty good. On highway, I just drive same speed as people around me and that hurt fuel economy a bit, but 31 mpg for going 75 mph isn't too bad.

On my '02 Accord V6 with the stock Michelin tires, I got ~ 30 mpg at 80-85 mph on pure interstate. I average about 25 mpg in combined driving.

Why were the plugs already changed? Don't forget to drain & refill that ATF!

Enjoy the car.

70 vs 55 mph. 10-25% reduction
ethanol 1-3% reduction
Tires (performance vs. touring) 0-4% reduction
plus lots of other factors.

When is the last time you changed your air filter?

You need to do more than two tanks of fuel before you jump to conclusions. My 04 accord V6 has gotten anywhere from 27.5 to 32.1 on the interstate depending on conditions. Long term average for interstate travel (tracked for 8000 miles) is 29.2 FWIW I have 75000 on the original spark plugs and O2 sensors.

Mileage depends largely on how you drive the car. For instance, with my GM 3900 powered vehicle, I was doing many short trips and city driving for a while, and I averaged about 18.5 MPG. I then did some extensive highway driving, often in the 90-100 MPH range with the AC on, and it returned about 24-25 MPG. I recently took a trip to northern New York and set the cruise at 60, with an occasional pass or two, and no A/C, and I averaged just under 31 MPG. Around town, usually about a 5-15 mile drive through hills, I get about 24 MPG.

It's all about how consistently and how quickly you drive. Also, if you're doing a lot of idling, you're slowly killing your mileage.

You also have to take into account that the EPA had different regs at that time. The early 90's Saturns, for example (if you could keep them together), got great mileage!

The 24-25 is over approx. 50K miles. Very, very consistent, although the first 10-15K miles the mileage varied quite a bit more. Low of 18 and high of 31 or 32, IIRC.

Regarding state of tune - everything has been changed at or before scheduled service (and I also periodically have Terry Dyson do an analysis just to be sure there are no gremlins).

The plugs I did because I didn't want to pull them at 105K.

The transmission has 3x fills of Molakule's (Specialty Formulations) ATF with Z1 magic. I'm getting ready to do another drain-and-refill on the transmission, although I've not decided if I'll use Amsoil or Honda OEM.

A/C or no A/C means about 1 mpg. I drive with cruise on for almost all of the highway, usually.

After reading all of your comments, I guess I'm getting what I can expect to get.
